SDG Coordinators support SDSN Youth’s mandate by working in the Network of member universities worldwide. The primary mission of the coordinators is to mobilize university students around the SDGs.

SDG Coordinators work in the SDG Students Program framework, which runs an international network of SDG students at universities. The SDG Students Program is to nurture effective lifelong advocates for sustainable development in local and global communities.

Coordinators ensure that all students in their university or campus are aware of the SDGs, have opportunities to take action towards SDGs implementation, and understand their importance to the broader community. Registration for the Sheikh Hasina Youth Volunteer Award 2020 is now going on. It is worth mentioning that Dhaka_ the capital of Bangladesh_ was declared as the “OIC Youth Capital 2020” by the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) on 25 December 2019. Due to the COVID-19 spread, the selection of Dhaka as OIC Youth Capital could not be well celebrated in 2020.

Being a multi-day global event, the Innovate4Cities Conference will convene more than 1,000 city leaders, scientists, researchers, innovators, scholars, youth, and private sector representatives to promote pragmatic and action-oriented research and science that will enable cities to mitigate their carbon footprint and increase resilience to climate change.

What is the “call for curators” purpose?

To make the above-mentioned goal of the conference a reality, the conference organizing committee is seeking curatorial teams around the world working and researching at the intersection of science and practice for the ambitious obtainment of climate goals, to curate program elements that represent regional voices, opportunities, and priority innovation paths and partnerships to the conference.

The regional curator teams will be supporters of the conference for providing the curation program segments at I4C.

Who can apply?

• UN-Habitat and GCoM are looking for regional curator teams consisting of local governments, research institutions/ universities and innovation partners to assist with delivering a program that is diverse, accessible, and representative of city-scale innovation, knowledge and ambition.
• The call for applications is open to the target applicants (curator team) from all regions of the world.

What criteria should the teams meet?

• At least 2, at most 6 local government, research organizations and or organizations representing sectors with knowledge in city climate change science or innovation from a time zone region
• Includes at least ONE research institute/University and ONE local government from within the applicant time zone region
• Proof that the team applying includes or will join forces with other urban stakeholders to be able to provide regional and thematic contextual content to the program and target suitable participants.

The European Union and United Nations are calling for nominations from individuals working in the civil society sector who have the expertise of and experience in working for gender-based, domestic and family violence as well as other relevant women’s rights and gender issues to be part of the Spotlights Initiative’s Civil Society’s National Reference Group 2020-22. The new initiative is meant to accelerate efforts as well as to mobilize actors to work toward the elimination of sexual violence and violence against women and girls in Afghanistan.

About the group

The Civil Society National Reference Group (CS-NRG) is a group of about 15 prominent national and local experts on eradicating Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) and harmful practices (HP) as well as on women’s rights more widely.

Who are eligible to apply?

Civil Society members and activists can nominate themselves or others who satisfy the binding criteria for being a member of CS-NRG.

Therefore,

• All candidates applying for the CS-NRG should be leaders with considerable experience working on women’s rights and gender equality and have knowledge in eliminating SGBV and HP
• Additionally, members should be individuals who have knowledge of human rights and feminist frameworks and experience in issues of protection.
• The membership should represent gender diversity and intersectionality of communities and constituencies in accordance with the Leave No One Behind (LNOB) principle.
• At least 50% of the CS-NRG members should come from women’s rights movements and feminist organizations.
• The group members will be part of the initiative in their personal capacities not in official capacities as representatives of their organizations.

Evaluation

A Selection Committee consisting of two civil society members, two UN members, one EU representative and one government official will review all nominations.

Applications are now open for the Climate Science Olympiad 2021.  This Olympiad or competition is organized by Climate Science annually and participants in the different age groups who meet other conditions as well can apply for the program from around the world. Participants in this tournament write about and share their solutions to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change. Each year, 10,000 participants compete in this tournament.

How does it work?

1. Local Qualifiers (online )

In this stage, individuals or teams of two compete with each other. Competitors can choose one of the three problem statements and respond to it. Participants are given the topics 10 days before the qualifier event but the exact title is not announced until the start of the actual event. Then, participants will write essay responses to the questions relating to the problem statement within 3 hours. (Read more below)

2. Semi-finals

• Participants: 500 (qualifiers)
• Time: Sept-Oct 2021

The top 5% of all qualifier competitors move on to the global semi-finals. Semi-finals are conducted online and semi-finalists are invited to a community education training that helps them prepare for the semi-final (and final).

3. Finalists

• Number: 50
• Date: Nov 2021 (finalists convene at the UN Climate Summit (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland). The final is conducted in-person and finalists will be invited to the COP26 summit in the UK.
• Winners will win 10,000 dollars prize.

 Eligibilities

• There are two age groups for participation (14-17 and 18-25). If you are in one of those at the time of registration, you qualify to participate regardless of nationality or other factors.
• Participants must be real persons.
• Both members of a team must fall in the same age group at the time of application.
• Proof-of-age from everyone who advances to the semi-finals will be asked.

Once established, the group will gain specialized skill-building and mentoring to improve their capacity to serve as strategic, highly adept, and credible actors in peacebuilding within their respective province and in the peace process as general.
• They may receive mentoring and capacity enhancing training in a variety of areas, including strategic planning and scenario building; technical training in issues related to the peace process, including negotiation and mediation, power-sharing, constitutional reform, transitional justice, and any issues that emerge in the peace process or bear relevance to post-peace process.
• Besides, the participants will receive logistic support through the Provincial Outreach Group to ensure and increase access to the various approaches related to the peace process.
• Also, they will identify and collect the concerns and demands of different societal groups regarding the peace process and post-peace agreement and transfer them to relevant authorities at local, national, and international levels through different methods.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, UNDP, and UN Volunteers (UNV) jointly launch a second round of the ‘Young Environmental Journalists’ campaign to tackle environmental and human rights consequences in the mining sector in four resource-rich countries: Colombia, Kenya, Mongolia, and Mozambique.

Hence, this joint campaign aims to empower young volunteers aged 18-31, to spread awareness about, and have a voice in decisions regarding management, and use of mineral resources.

Within this program, the 70 selected ‘Young Environmental Journalists’ will work with the joint Swedish EPA – UNDP Environmental Governance Programme (EGP) to generate inspiring stories of change and develop a robust network of young journalists and environmental and human rights advocates.

Through the UNV online volunteering service, the seventy winning candidates will participate in online training courses, including the UNITAR course on environmental governance of the mining sector, and take part in a range of webinars with journalists, editors, and experts from August to November 2020.

The online volunteers who complete the compulsory online courses and attend all virtual meetings will earn a certificate from UNV, UNDP, and the Swedish EPA. Additionally, they will also receive a certificate from the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Furthermore, the stories will be published via UN, UNDP, EGP website, and on the Swedish Environment Protection Agency platform.

Task description

Generally, Under the direct supervision of the UNOSGEY and as part of a UN team, the Youth Volunteer will carry out the following tasks:

• Support the Program Officer/Gender Specialist in the implementation of the OSGEYs approach to significant youth inclusion in the Beijing+25 process and Generation Equality Forum
• Assist the Program Officer/Gender Specialist in strategic promotion of political participation as a focus area for OSGEY
• Contribute to the organization of a forthcoming conference on Young Women’s Political Participation
• Support the development of key messages, briefing notes, background notes and talking points for the Youth Envoy
• Provide technical support for research activities
• Ensure entire programmatic support including organizing side events, meetings, webinars and communication campaigns on gender equality
• Assist with writing proposals for funding for initiatives and donor reporting
• Liaise with different branches of the UN system, civil society institutions, feminist organizations, youth-led, and youth-serving organizations
• Promote the mainstreaming of gender equality youth and youth volunteer standpoints in the work of UN field operations throughout all UN pillars (development, peace and security, human rights, humanitarian) INCLUDING common initiatives (e.g. in the context of projects under the Peacebuilding Fund, the SDG Fund, the UNDP-DPPA Joint Programme, the Spotlight Initiative, etc.)
• Participate in coordination meetings within and outside the UN system on behalf of OSGEY

Moreover, the UN Youth Volunteers are required to:

• Foster their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading related UNV and additional publications and actively partake in UNV activities;
• Be familiar with and launch traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Give feedback on or discuss the type and quality of voluntary activities that they are conducting, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Produce articles/write-ups on field experiences and share them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press statements, etc.;
