Opportunity Description

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) accepts grants for the 10th UNAI Millennium Oceans Prize 2024-2025. The Prize is back for its tenth year to support and honor students passionate about conserving, protecting, and using sustainably using oceans, seas, and marine water and life.

The Millennium Oceans Prize Addresses Sustainable Development Goal 14 by recognizing young activists committed to improving their communities by furthering marine and freshwater conservation and the sustainable use of marine resources. Winners will receive mentorship and a $5,000 reward for implementing a specific campaign idea to stimulate change and attract support in activism, policy, and leadership for oceans and freshwater systems.

The Millennium Oceans Prize Winners will have the opportunity to connect with their peers for the sustainable and conservation use of the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.

Submissions must show the ability to inspire peers and maintain active involvement throughout an academic year. Although the campaigns will be limited in time, their impact will clear the way for the next wave of student demonstrations.

  • Up to $5,000 to put your winning campaign into action.
  • MCN mentoring and assistance
  • Co-create campaign action groups, mobilizing and coordinating with colleagues who are enthusiastic about SDG 14.
  • Write about your campaign for our media partners.
  • During the academic year, co-curate worldwide webinars with the MCN and the Remmer Family Foundation to keep peers interested and involved.

Eligibility Criteria of Ashton Award for Student Research

Young leaders who can inspire peers and sustain active engagement for the conservation and sustainability of our oceans and marine life for an entire school year can apply. Although the campaigns will be limited in time, their impact should prepare the way for the next wave of student demonstrations.
