Opportunity Description

DAAD Scholarships applications are now open for international students for the Master’s Sustainable Energy and Development (SEDev), formerly the Energy and Environmental Management (EEM). Applicants from Developing Countries, including Afghanistan, can apply for this opportunity in 2025-27. International applicants can apply for this Master’s degree at the Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF).

The Sustainable Energy and Development Master (SEDev), managed by the Department of Energy and Development as part of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Environmental, Social, and Human Studies, embodies interdisciplinarity and innovative thinking. With roots tracing back to the 1980s, this program, offered jointly by the University and the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, specializes in three areas: “Transition,” “Development,” and “Engineering.” Leveraging the region’s pioneering energy transition initiatives, SEDev benefits from a robust research environment and collaboration with the Centre for Research in Sustainability and Transformation (CREST), ensuring a strong scientific foundation supported by active researchers.

Focused on addressing climate change and energy poverty, SEDev aims to achieve universal access to affordable, reliable, and renewable energy, primarily in Global South nations. Over 24 months, students pursue a Master of Engineering degree while gaining expertise in modern engineering, management, and social skills. Graduates play vital roles in initiating, planning, and managing energy system transformations, promoting equitable energy solutions, and empowering communities.

The program employs problem-based learning to navigate complexities and evolving technologies, facilitating the practical application of learning outcomes. A preparatory semester covers economics, research methods, and academic writing, with a German language course available for DAAD scholarship recipients.

In summary, SEDev equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to drive sustainable social and economic development through energy transformation, preparing them for impactful careers in various sectors worldwide.
