Applications for the 16th intake of International Media Studies Scholarships are now open to applicants from developing countries who want to study for their master’s degree in Germany. This scholarship is a joint program of the University of Bonn, the Deutsche Welle (DW) Academy, and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. The program aims to provide an environment for students to study media. International Media Studies is a full-time four-semester program in English and German. Therefore, students with advanced language proficiency can apply for this scholarship opportunity.
International Media Studies is primarily for young journalists, media managers, and communications staff from developing and transitioning countries. Requirements for International Media Studies Scholarships
Interested applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Have a bachelor’s degree;
- Prove one year of professional experience in a media-related field;
- Provide results on language proficiency in both English and German. The following scores are necessary for English:
- TOEFL iBT 83
- IELTS 6.5
- Additionally, for German language proficiency, applicants should prove the following:
- Test DaF at least level TDN 3 in all four parts
- Goethe Zertifikat level B2, or DSH level

Apply for the DAAD Scholarship
Selection procedure
International Media Studies program applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and at least 1 year of post-degree professional experience in a media-related field. The program is conducted in English, and applicants must provide proof of strong English proficiency through a recognized language test, except for native English speakers.
A selection committee, comprising representatives from partner institutions, evaluates candidates based on qualifications, motivation, media and international experience, knowledge of media and development, and any relevant publications or references. Shortlisted scholarship candidates may have a telephone interview. Admission is limited due to restricted spots in practical media seminars.
Successful applicants must submit certified copies of their original documents, including certified translations if the originals are not English or German. Upon verification by the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, these documents result in the issuance of an official acceptance letter.
