Program Overview

The Schwarzman Scholars program is a one-year, fully funded scholarship program offered to the most promising young international leaders after going through a rigorous evaluation process. Scholarship participants will receive a Master’s Degree awarded by Tsinghua University and accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The Scholarship’s main objective is to expand the Scholars’ professional networks, deepen academic and experiential knowledge of China, and expand their cultural understanding of China.

  • For China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao, national: January to 20 May,
  • Any other country from April 14 to September 9, 2026 (11:59 pm EDT)

Eligibilities:

To be eligible for Schwarzman Scholarships, applicants must be able to showcase exceptional leadership skills, the ability to anticipate and respond to trends and changes in their environment, strong intellectual capacity, and exemplary character. Additionally, candidates are required to fulfill the following criteria.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or obtain one before August 1
  • be between 18 and 28 years old as of August
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency :
    – TOEFL iBT (120-point scale): 100
    – IELTS: 7
    – Duolingo English Test: 130
    – Cambridge Advanced (C1): 185
    – Cambridge Proficiency (C2): 185). There is no need to take the TOEFL if the applicant has studied English for at least two years at the bachelor’s or master’s degree level or higher.
  • No citizenship restriction

Requirements:

The following documents are required for the Schwarzman Scholars Application:

  • Complete online application
  • Undergraduate or graduate transcripts (official translations must be included, in case they are not in English.)
  • Three electronic letters of recommendation
  • One-minute Video to introduce themselves and describe their interests and personality (Optional, 20MB)
  • CV (max. two pages)
  • Two Essays (Leadership essay-750 words and Statement of Purpose-500 words)
  • Short question answer
  1. Statement of Purpose and Leadership: describing specific examples of the applicant’s leadership (Max. 750 words)
  2. Current Affairs Essay: manifests the current factors influencing the chosen topic and make a feasible recommendation (Max. 500 words)
