Developed in collaboration with key organizations, including the University of Strathclyde Students’ Association, Scottish Refugee Council, and The Carnegie Trust, this scholarship aims to support individuals facing barriers to higher education due to their asylum-seeking status.

The scholarship covers tuition fees and offers financial assistance for necessary study-related expenses. If you were under 18 when your asylum application was submitted, you may be eligible to have your tuition fees covered by SAAS.

You can benefit from the program as follows:

  • The scholarship covers tuition fees until the recipient becomes eligible for tuition fee support from relevant funding bodies.
  • The study allowance of £2,000 covers essential expenses, including books, equipment, and local transportation within Glasgow.

Eligibility Criteria

All candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Must have received a conditional or unconditional offer to study an undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University of Strathclyde.
  • Applicants must have applied for refugee status under the 1951 UN Convention on the Status of Refugees or have been granted leave to remain in the UK based on Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
  • Residency within the Glasgow area is required; however, exceptions may be made for applicants residing elsewhere in the UK with appropriate accommodation arrangements.
  • Must have been in the UK since August 1, before the course’s start date

The following are not eligible:

  • those outside the UK.
  • Those traveling to the UK solely for scholarship qualification is prohibited.
  • Exclusions: Housing, living expenses, and travel costs are not covered.
  • Ineligible if not receiving Home Office support for living costs.
  •  research students –  who are not intending to pursue an undergraduate or taught postgraduate degree
