Opportunity Description

The Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovakian Republic Government is offering 70 scholarships for students from ODA countries such as Afghanistan and other countries to study for their bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in the Slovak Republic.

There are many scholarships, and the fields of study are distinctly specified for each eligible country. Eight scholarships are allocated for Afghanistan (8 for bachelor’s and master’s degrees). For other countries, read the full details HERE and download the file.

Level of study:

Eligible Countries: Priority countries of the Slovak ODA, including Afghanistan

Slovakia Scholarship Benefits

Please review the details of Slovakia Scholarship Benefits as follows:

For bachelor and master:

  • Monthly scholarship of 400 Euros
  • Study commencement stipend of 100 Euros
  • Study completion stipend of 200 Euros
  • Monthly stipend for public university 80 Euros

For Ph.D.:

  • A monthly scholarship of 734 Euros
  • Study commencement stipend of 100 Euros
  • Study completion stipend of 200 Euros
  • The monthly stipend for a public university is 240Euros

For language preparation:

  • Monthly scholarship of 400 Euros
  • Study commencement stipend of 100 Euros
  • Monthly stipend for public university 80 Euros

Note: if living standards in Slovakia significantly change, the monthly scholarship may be adjusted accordingly.

Fees in Slovakia:

  • Dormitory accommodation: 92-100 Euro/month
  • Meals (11 €/day): 330 € monthly
  • Medical examination: 140/169 Euro
  • Interview related to entrance application procedure: 20-80 Euro
  • Completion of degree work: 33 Euro approximately
  • Dissertation: 50 Euro approx.
  • Translation and authentication of diploma: 33 Euro

Incentive stipend:

Students with excellent academic performance will receive a bonus for a GPA of 1.3: 50 Euro/per month
PhD students passed the exam by the deadline: 170 euros/year.

Government scholarships are provided for a specific period, but in exceptional cases, the Ministry of Education, Research, Development, and Youth of Slovakia may consider changes to this period. Such decisions are made based on the reasons provided by the applicant and supported by necessary documentation. These decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Scholarships revoked due to poor academic performance will not be reassigned to other applicants.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Applicants should fulfill the requirements below to apply for 2024/25 Slovakia Government Scholarships:

  • Be from one of the eligible country
  • You must be between 18 and 26 for a bachelor’s and master’s degree and between 23 and 35 for a Ph.D. degree.
  • Meet any additional requirements set by the Slovakia Government.

 

Required Documents

Please prepare and submit the following application documents in advance to apply for the Slovakia Government Scholarships:

Highest Level of Education Record:

    • School leaving certificate or university degree.
    • Authentication by state authority if obtained outside Slovakia.
    • Certified translation into English, Slovak, Czech, French, or Spanish.
    • Deadline: 31 August (for ongoing students).

Completion Certificates:

    • Secondary school results for bachelor’s degree applicants.
    • Transcript of records for master’s or doctoral degree applicants.
    • Results from the last year are accepted until 31 August.

Letter of Acceptance:

    • Required from applicants speaking Slovak and applying to Slovak public universities.
    • Deadline: 31 August.

Birth Certificate:

    • Certified translation is required if not in Slovak, Czech, English, French, or Spanish.

Photograph:

    • Requirements: 3.5 cm x 4 cm, no glasses with dark lenses, minimum resolution of 350 x 400 pixels for digital images.

Recommendations:

    • Two recommendations from secondary school teachers for a bachelor’s degree.
    • Two recommendations from university teachers for master’s or PhD.

Curriculum Vitae and Motivation Letter:

    • Signed documents explaining reasons for studying in Slovakia, chosen specialization, and future perspectives.

Publications (Optional for PhD Applicants):

    • Bibliographical details of publication activities.

Passport Copy:

    • Personal details pages of the passport.

Signed Application:

    • Print and sign a filled application form.
    • Attach a scan of the signed “Confirmation” section.

What does the term “Signed application form” mean?

After completing the online application form, navigate to section 1. Applications in your account, download the PDF file labeled “Document,” print its final page titled “Confirmation,” sign it, and upload the scanned copy as “Signed application.”

 

What is the language used for studying?

Study at the university is exclusively conducted in Slovak under this scholarship program. If you are not proficient in Slovak, indicate in your account’s section 2. Basic data that you do not speak the Slovak language (select “no” for the question “My knowledge of the Slovak language is sufficient to pass the study”). If your scholarship application is approved, you will participate in a ten-month Slovak language and academic preparatory course starting in September. Upon completion of the course, you may then apply to the university.

 

Who is eligible for this scholarship program?

To qualify for the Slovak governmental scholarship, you must meet the eligibility criteria outlined on the website – https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/wizard (select your country only). If your country is not listed, you are ineligible to apply.

 

I am under 18 years old at the time of application, can I apply?

Applicants for bachelor’s or master’s degrees must be 18 years old by September 1st; otherwise, they are ineligible to apply. For bachelor’s and master’s degrees, the age range is set from 18 to 26 years old by September 1st. For Ph.D. programs, applicants must be aged between 23 and 35 by September 1st.

 

How can I submit my application?

Those meeting the eligibility requirements and wishing to apply must register via the website – https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/registration. Remember to keep track of your email and password provided during registration for future logins. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email containing an activation link (also check your spam folder). Click on the activation link to activate your account, then log in at https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/. Once logged in, fill out the online application form and attach all required documents. A user manual is available in your account to assist you with the form completion.

 

What should I do? If I have not received the activation link required to log in to the website.

What are the financial terms?

What file formats are allowed for uploads?

Accepted formats for photographs are png, jpg, and jpeg. Allowed formats for other documents include png, jpg, jpeg, gif, doc, docx, pdf, rtf, txt, and zip. The maximum size permitted for each upload is 10MB. If you have multiple documents, save them in a ZIP file before attaching, or merge them into one PDF file. To save attachments, click on “Save data and continue” and upload files individually.

 

Why don’t I see a “new application” link in my account?

The “New application” link is visible only during the official application period. It is unavailable before or after the official term and, hence, is not displayed in the account. The application period is March 25- May 30 and can be found here as well – https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/application.

 

Do I need to include publications?

Publications are not mandatory for applicants seeking bachelor’s or master’s degrees. They are optional for Ph.D. degree applicants.

How many scholarships are for each country?
