Opportunity Description

The National University of Singapore (NUS) offers Research Scholarships for national and international candidates. NUS Research Scholarships are for talented graduate students for research taking to a higher degree at the NUS. This Research Scholarship consists of a monthly stipend plus a tuition fee subsidy.

The Scholarship is reasonable for one (1) year in the first year and renewed each semester afterward. The scholarship renewal is subject to the Scholar’s satisfactory progress.

The maximum duration of the NUS Research Scholarship is two years for Master’s applicants and four years for Ph.D. candidates. The relevant faculty or school in each case may determine the scholarship period.

Benefits of the NUS Research Scholarships

Awardees of the NUS Research Scholarships will benefit from the program for four years as follows:

  • Monthly stipends for four years:
For Ph.D. Candidates: For Master’s Candidates:
Singapore Citizen S$2,800 S$2,800
Singapore Permanent Resident S$2,400 S$2,000
International Student S$2,200 S$1,900
  • Tuition Fees Subsidies for four years
  • Scholars in a Ph.D. program are eligible for an additional allowance of up to $500 per month upon passing the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination (QE). QE date will be within 12 to 18 months after registration of candidature. This stipend is renewable each semester, subject to the good performance of candidates, and the duration of the additional compensation may vary between Faculties and Schools.

Eligibilities and Criteria

The scholarships are open to applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have graduated with a bachelor’s degree with minimum Second Class Honours (Upper division) or Honours (Distinction) or equivalent
  • They should have received an admission offer from the NUS or already been admitted to a full-time graduate research program at NUS.
  • Be eligible for MOE Subsidy:
  1. Students of all nationalities with a higher degree qualification and wish to pursue a second graduate program of the same or lower level are eligible for the MOE subsidy.
  2. Students who have previously enjoyed government subsidies or scholarships in a graduate program will not be eligible for MOE subsidy in another graduate program at the same or lower level.
  3. Students of all nationalities who did not complete an earlier original graduate program and are now transferred or readmitted to another program at the same level within NUS or across Autonomous Universities (AUs) will be eligible for MOE subsidy.
