Opportunity Description

Applications for Indonesia Kemitraan Negara Bekembang (KNB) Scholarships are now open. This Scholarship is offered for students from developing countries to pursue their Bachelor’s, Master or Ph.D. in Indonesia.

The Directorate General of Higher Education, Technology and Research and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology manage the Scholarship offered since 2006 to 1,608 recipients from 97 countries.

The KNB Scholarship plays a crucial role in supporting Indonesian higher education institutions with the efforts they make for internationalization.

This Scholarship’s primary purpose is to help develop human resources in developing countries, promote deeper cultural understanding, and strengthen the relationship and cooperation between developing countries.

Program Duration: 

  • Indonesian Language Course: 12 Months
  • Master Preparatory Program: 12 Months
  • Bachelor’s Program: 48 Months (8 Semesters)

  • Doctorate Program: 36 Months (6 Semesters)

Benefits

KNB Scholarship covers the following allowances for the awardees:

  • Living allowance of 1,500,000 IDR upon arrival in Indonesia;
  • Monthly living and book allowances for Indonesian language preparation;
  • Monthly stipend for living, research, and book allowances;
  • Medical insurance up to IDR 400,000
  • Economy class airfare travel to and from Indonesia;
  • Local transport to the host university

Eligibility Criteria

There are separate specific sets of requirements for each degree level; please read the following carefully:

  1. Requirements and documents for doctorate scholarship candidates:
  • Candidates cannot be more than 40 years old;
  • Hold a master’s degree proving by providing a scanned copy of your degree certificate and academic transcripts in English). A doctorate holder is not eligible to apply;
  • Provide one recommendation letter from the potential research supervisor in partner universities of the KNB Scholarship;
  • Submit one statement of purpose explaining the purpose of candidates’ studies, the reason behind their interest in studying in Indonesia, pursuing their desired research topic, and future academic plans for the educational future;
  • Prove TOEFL (90 iBT), IELTS (7.0), or any other English Proficiency Test certificate obtained within the last 2 Years;
  • Recommendation letter from an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General to apply for the KNB scholarship;
  • One recommendation letter from an employer or direct supervisor for the KNB Scholarship;
  • One recommendation letter from previous universities;
  • Valid and official Passport or Personal ID;
  • Completed online Application Form
  1. Requirements and documents for master degree scholarship candidates:
  • Candidates cannot be more than 35 years old;
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree proving by providing a scanned copy of your degree certificate and academic transcripts in English). Master degree holder is not eligible;
  • Prove TOEFL (80 iBT), IELTS (6.0), and TOEIC (700) certificates obtained within the last 2 Years;
  • Recommendation letter from an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General to apply for the KNB scholarship;
  • One recommendation letter from an employer or direct supervisor for the KNB Scholarship;
  • One recommendation letter from previous schools;
  • Valid and official Passport or Personal ID;
  • Complete the online Application Form.
  1. Requirements and documents for Bachelor’s degree scholarship candidates:
  • Candidates cannot be more than 25 years old;
  • Hold a High School degree by providing a scanned copy of the degree certificate and academic transcripts in English). Bachelor’s degree holder is not eligible to apply;
  • Prove TOEFL (80 iBT), IELTS (6.0), and TOEIC (700) certificates obtained within the last 2 Years;
  • Recommendation letter from an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General to apply for the KNB scholarship;
  • One recommendation letter from an employer or immediate supervisor for the KNB Scholarship;
  • One recommendation letter from previous schools;
  • Valid and official Passport or Personal ID;
  • Complete the online Application Form

How to Apply?

Qualified applicants should follow the following instructions to submit a successful application package:

  1. Application Procedure: 
  • Download the Invitation Letter from the Scholarship website;
  • Submit the Invitation Letter, Academic Certificates, Academic Transcripts, and Passport to the Indonesian Embassy or Indonesian Consulate to get the recommendation letter;
  • Complete the online application process;
  • Wait for the selection process;
  • Check the Selection Results through the KNB Scholarship Website and the Indonesian Embassy publication network.
  1. Guides: During the application process, remember some important information below:
  • Collect as much information as possible on the desired study program and universities. After admission, no change is likely in either the universities or your study program.
  • The recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy in your home country is mandatory. The Embassy issues the recommendation letter based on verification and necessary background or security checks by the Indonesian Embassy. In case of no Indonesian official representative in your country, applicants can get a letter from any Indonesian Embassy accredited to their home country.
  • All documents should be in English or officially translated into English.
  • The participants from English-speaking countries also need to meet the requirement to each the written proof of their English proficiency.
  • The universities will conduct the selection process and may ask for an online interview with the potential candidates.
