Thematic Areas of the Year
The 2024 Call for Solutions will focus on five key thematic areas:
- Climate and Environmental Literacy: This area emphasizes the importance of education and literacy in addressing climate challenges. It aims to equip individuals, communities, and societies with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Solutions may include formal and non-formal education strategies and awareness-raising activities within communities.
- Sustainable Energy: Addressing the urgent need for sustainable energy, proposals should focus on enhancing access to affordable and reliable energy services, promoting renewable energy sources, and improving overall energy efficiency. Solutions can cover various applications, from clean cooking to transportation, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 7.
- Food and Agriculture: Given the significant contribution of agriculture to greenhouse gas emissions and food insecurity exacerbated by climate change, solutions in this area may include regenerative and climate-resilient food production practices, along with interventions in food processing, distribution, and consumption.
- Nature Assets: Solutions here revolve around conserving and restoring vital natural assets such as forests, oceans, and mangroves. Despite their immense value, these ecosystems are rapidly declining due to human activities, necessitating focused efforts to protect and restore them.
- Sustainable Consumption and Production: Recognizing the unsustainable patterns driving the planetary crisis, solutions aim to transition towards a circular economy. It involves minimizing waste and pollution, optimizing resource use, and designing products for longevity, repairability, and recyclability.
These thematic areas offer a comprehensive approach to addressing climate challenges, ranging from education and energy to agriculture, nature conservation, and sustainable consumption and production.
