Opportunity Description

Registration is open for the Transversalidades Competition 2024, organized by the Center for Iberian Studies (CEI). This competition promotes cultural and scientific cooperation among Coimbra, Guarda, and Salamanca. Through photography, this competition seeks to break down barriers and promote inclusion, especially in remote and border territories.

By documenting diverse landscapes, societies, and cultures, the contest seeks to:

  • Utilize images’ aesthetic, documentary, and pedagogical value to highlight less visible territories, inventory resources, and celebrate local landscapes, cultures, and heritage.
  • Foster cooperation between people, institutions, and territories across different countries and continents, encouraging the exchange of experiences and knowledge
  • Engage new audiences, particularly young university students, through innovative communication technologies to expand the international network of researchers associated with the CEI.

The competition invites submissions that describe the diversity of territories, societies, and cultures worldwide, exploring changes, social organizations, and spaces. Photos should capture natural, economic, social, and cultural landscapes, contributing to territorial cooperation and promoting the inclusion of remote and less visible regions. Themes include:

  • Landscapes, biodiversity, and natural heritage
  • Rural areas, agriculture, and settlement
  • The city and the urbanization process
  • Cultural diversity and social inclusion
