Opportunity Description

University of Lucerne offers Visiting Fellowship for PhD and Postdoctoral candidates that aims to enable visitors to stay for a period of time in Lucerne. The fellows will learn and share, develop teaching and research ideas with other fellows and members of the university.

The University of Lucerne believes in diversity of academia and education in order to enrich the intellectual life of the university. The university provides a small number of supported fellowships each year for postdocs and PhD students. The grant pays for lodging and travel expenses, with the potential for an additional stipend to cover extra living expenditures. Applicants respond to a yearly call by submitting applications.

Benefits and Funding

In exchange for the aforementioned, fellows will receive the following benefits:

  • A university workspace
  • Access to the institute’s reference library and the Lucerne central library
  • A varied schedule of lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences
  • Welcoming and stimulating environment for discussion and reflection.

Funding Options:

There are two parts to fellowship grants:

  • A set stipend of CHF 2000 to cover housing and living expenses. Keep in mind that fellows are expected to make their own accommodations.
  • The cost of round-trip, economy-class transportation from the country of residence to Lucerne, up to a maximum of 1500 CHF.

Expectations from the Fellows

During the fellowship, it is expected from Fellows to:

    • Meet with members and other fellows (regularly)
    • Partake in activities of the institute such as seminars, conferences, workshops and lectures
    • Reside in Lucerne campus
    • Prepare and have self-growth in order to gain further opportunities for exchange
    • Paper presentation at a research seminar or colloquium
    • Delivery of a guest lecture as a teaching module
    • Co-organise a seminar or workshop

Eligibility for the Visiting Fellowship for PhD and Postdoctoral

Applicants should meet the following requrinments:

  • Applicants must be postdoctoral and PhD researchers
  • No restrictions on nationality
  • The applicant should have defended their dissertation after January 1st 2019
  • There are some exceptions to the above. They should be well founded and assessed discreetly by the assessment committee.
