Opportunity Description

Nominations are now open for the Diana Award 2024. The award is established in memory of Diana, the Princess of Wales. It is one of the most prestigious awards a young person (9-25 years old) can receive for social or humanitarian work. Furthermore, this award is bestowed upon courageous, inspiring, and passionate young individuals to recognize their efforts for positively transforming people’s lives.  So, if you are one of those people, you are the right person to be nominated.

Benefits

There are two categories of awards and benefits:

Dian Award:

Successful international nominees will be invited to a virtual event on International Ceremony Day in December 2024 and will receive their certificates by post in January 2025.

The Legacy Award:

Both UK-based and international Diana Award awardees are eligible for The Legacy Award, which is held biennially. The Legacy Award ceremony will occur at the London Science Museum, London, in March 2024. There will be 20 Legacy Awards for the successful nominees.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for The Diana Award, nominees must:

  • Be between the ages of 9 and 25.
  • Have been doing their activities for a minimum of 12 months.
  • A nominator must be 18 years old to nominate the applicant for the award.
  • Nominators must know the young person professionally, i.e., teacher or youth worker.
  • Nominations made by family members or those related to the nominee will not be accepted.
  • Download the Diana Award Nomination Guide to support you in your application.
  • The nominator can provide the contact details and a Supporting Statement from an additional Supporter to validate the nomination.
  • The nominator can provide additional evidence of the nominee’s social action work (optional).

Evaluation

An external and regional panel of judges will review the applications and select the successful ones. The judges will assess the nominees’ work based on the following criteria:

  1. VISION
  • Describe the nominee’s commitment to social action.
  • Specify the cause(s) they’re involved in.
  • Explain why they chose their cause(s) and their passion.
  1. IMPACT
  • Detail the local and global impact of the nominee’s work.
  • Discuss their goals and progress.
  • Include any feedback or evaluations of their work.
  1. INSPIRING OTHERS
  • Illustrate how the nominee inspires and supports other young people.
  • Describe their role as a mentor or leader in their community.
  • Explain how they encourage others to engage in social action.
  1. YOUTH-LED
  • Explain how the nominee initiated and led their social action activities.
  • Discuss their engagement with networks for success.
  1. SOCIAL ACTION JOURNEY
  • Describe the personal challenges the nominee faced.
  • Explain how they navigated these challenges and used them to inform their work.
  • Discuss the lessons learned from their experiences.

Note: ‘Optimistic social action’ refers to harm-free actions aligned with The Diana Award’s anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-LGBTQIA+ bullying stances.

Supporting Documents

To validate your nomination for the Diana Award, a Supporter (individual or organization over 18) must provide a statement confirming:

  1. Awareness of the nominee’s social action work, with specifics on how they became aware.
  2. No knowledge of any reason why the nominee shouldn’t receive the Diana Award.

Notes:

  • The Supporter must not be a friend or family member of the nominee and must differ from the nominator.
  • The statement can be written or video. Provide the Supporter’s full name, job title, organization (if applicable), relationship to the nominee, email or phone contact, and consent for contact.

 Additional Evidence (Optional)

You may include additional evidence to support the nomination:

  • Images and videos of the nominee’s work
  • Links to social media or websites
  • News articles or press coverage
  • Reports
  • Testimonials from beneficiaries
