The UICC Technical Fellowships, established in 1976 and approaching their 50th anniversary, provide professionals in the field of cancer control with the chance to gain new knowledge, skills, and techniques. The 2026 call places a strong emphasis on public health, prevention, early detection, and evidence-based cancer control strategies, with a special focus on cervical cancer and HPV vaccination.

Financial Benefits

The UICC Fellowship provides generous financial support calculated based on the fellowship duration and the destination country’s income group. The award covers:

  • Estimated economy return flight costs from your home country to the host institution.
  • A living cost contribution intended to cover housing, food, local transportation, and basic services.
  • Up to $2,880 for visits to Low and Middle-Income Countries (for a two-month stay).
  • Up to $7,400 for visits to High-Income Countries (for a two-month stay).

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the UICC Technical Fellowships, applicants must meet the following specific requirements:

  • Hold a minimum of a Master’s degree. Qualified medical doctors may apply in the absence of a Master’s degree if they hold a board certification (or are within a year of holding one) in a cancer-related specialty.
  • Registered nurses with an RN qualification are eligible.
  • A one-year post-bachelor specialty training related to cancer (e.g., cancer registrar training) can be accepted as a Master’s equivalent.
  • Have worked in the field of cancer for at least five years prior to applying (evidenced by publications, abstracts, or positions held).
  • Be an employee on the payroll of a relevant institution (university, hospital, oncology unit, research laboratory, registry, or cancer society) and return to it after the fellowship.
  • Have adequate fluency in a common language shared with the host institution to ensure effective communication.
  • Must apply to visit a country different from the country of current residence.
  • Please note: Medical, Master’s, or PhD students currently participating in a study/educational program are not eligible. Individuals associated with commercial entities, tobacco, or alcohol industries are also ineligible.

  • An official letter of invitation from the host institution on their official letterhead, signed by the host supervisor.
  • Home and host supervisor attestation forms (either downloaded, signed, and uploaded, or completed via online invitation on the platform).
  • Your detailed CV/Bio-sketch including education, professional positions, up to five relevant publications, prizes, and a personal statement.

Can I apply for the fellowship to attend a short training course or conference? No, applications exclusively requesting support for the attendance of basic training courses, lectures, meetings, conferences, or congresses without a defined project of work are not eligible.

I am currently enrolled as a PhD student but already have a Master’s degree. Am I eligible? No, candidates who are currently participating in an educational program, such as medical, Master’s, or PhD students, are not eligible to apply, regardless of their previous qualifications.

Does the fellowship cover visa costs and medical insurance? No, costs for visas, passports, airport taxes, medical care, and travel insurance are the sole responsibility of the fellow. The award is intended strictly as a contribution towards international flights and daily living expenses.
