The application is open for the University of Brunei Darussalam UBD Graduate Research Scholarship for 2026-2027. Outstanding students from any country who want to pursue their graduate studies and research at Brunei Darussalam University (UBD) can apply for this fully funded scholarship.

The UBD Graduate Research Scholarship (UGRS) is a competitive scheme awarded to quality PhD students who strongly desire to work in an international and competitive research-intensive environment. UBD is committed to opening doors to the brightest students to work among and network with our researchers to enrich their experience, equip them with the skills to maximize their talents and aim to improve the university’s international visibility.

UBD Graduate Research Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship will cover the following expenses:

  • Waived tuition fees, including registration and acceptance fees, at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
  • Subsistence allowance of BND 2,200.00 per month for 36 months.
  • Free on-campus accommodation (excluding administrative fees) provided by UBD Corp.
  • One incoming and outgoing economy class air ticket for candidates not residing in Brunei Darussalam, covering travel upon accepting the scholarship and returning to their home country upon study completion.
  • Funding support for overseas research or conference presentations, up to BND 3,000.00.
  • Visa fees are included in the scholarship for candidates.

Qualification and Requirements

The ideal candidate for the 2024-25 Graduate Research Scholarship should meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants should be under 30 at the time of application. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Hold a Master’s Degree and at least an Upper Second Degree in a relevant field from a globally recognized top university or
  • Hold a First-class Degree in a relevant field from a globally recognized top university.
  • Applicants must meet UBD’s admission requirements, including demonstrating proficiency in English (IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL PBT 550, or Band B2 in the UBD English Proficiency Test (UBD-EPT).

  • Submit a research proposal of high quality and impact.

Note: Applicants should have gained their degrees within five years of the starting date of the relevant Academic semester of the enrolment (i.e., 1 August or 1 January)

  • Research and publication (if available)
  • Research proposal (min 1000 words)
  • Two referees details
  • Valid Passport
  • Academic degree certificate and transcripts
  • Security Clearance letter
  • A letter of permission from the employer
  • English Proficiency document
  • An essay of a maximum of 1000 words describing the reason for applying to the University of Brunei Darussalam, your eligibility to be deserved for a scholarship, and what you intend to give back to Brunei Darussalam
