About the University and Program
Maastricht University (UM) was established on January 9, 1976, in Holland due to the requirement for medical faculty in the country. Now, it has six faculties of arts and social sciences, faculty of Health, medicine, and life sciences, faculty of law, faculty of Psychology and neuroscience, faculty of science and engineering, and the School of Business and Economics.
The university offers 21 fully funded scholarships of 34,000 Euros annually for outstanding, talented applicants from outside the European Union who have been admitted to the University of Maastricht.
Scholarship coverage:
The scholarship provides 34,000 Euros that includes:
- Pre-academic training cost of about 695 Euros
- Tuition fee waiver
- Monthly stipend
- A living allowance of 15,925 euros (€ 1,225 per month) for one one-year program and 30625 Euros for two two-year program which includes the following:
- Housing: € 600
- Groceries and personal hygiene: € 160
- Telephone: € 60
- Travel: € 100
- Books and study materials: € 90
- Clothing, hobbies and going out: € 125
- Miscellaneous: € 90
- Health insurance of 700 Euros
- Visa expenses
There are two types of scholarships included in the scholarship program:
- High Potential scholarship: funded by Maastricht University
- Holland scholarship: funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in relation to Dutch Universities.
Who can apply for this scholarship?
- Be a national of a non-EU country.
- Do not have dual nationality of an EU/EEA country or Swiss
- Fulfill the visa and residency requirements in the Netherlands
- Applied to a full-time master’s degree program at Maastricht University and meet the entry and admission requirements.
- Be 35 years old or younger by September 1, 2025
- Have obtained good marks and academic results during the previous academic degree
- Applicants who applied to degree programs in the Netherlands are not eligible to apply.
How to apply?
Eligible applicants are requested to follow the steps below in order to apply for this scholarship:
- Apply to one of the available master’s degree programs at MU and receive the student ID number of Maastricht University after applying via the Studielink website. (pay the application fee by February 1, 2025, if the program you apply to requires)
- Fill out and submit the scholarship application form only once.
- Selected applicants will be invited to interview.

- Motivation letter (1 A4 page ): Describe the importance of this scholarship to you, why you should be one of the selected students, and your role as an ambassador of Maastricht University. Use this template
- Reference: read and forward this guideline to your referees
- Academic excellence proof: University degree transcripts indicating your GPA or class ranking or a signed letter by the institution’s head of department describing that the applicant is one of the top 20 students in the class.
- Submit One referee’s contact details.
The selected applicant will be among the top 5% of the scholarship applicants that will be notified in April 2025
