Applications are open for the Sciences Po Emile Boutmy Scholarship for undergraduate and Master’s degree studies in 2026-27. Through this scholarship, Sciences Po attracts the most talented international students outside the European Union to pursue an undergraduate or Master’s degree in an eligible course. Therefore, top-level applicants whose profiles match the admissions criteria of Sciences Po and individual course requirements can apply for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship.

The Émile Boutmy scholarship is generously supported by benefactors, companies, and foundations committed to helping top international students study at Sciences Po. Sponsors may connect with scholarship recipients at official events.

Eligible applicants must be first-time students from non-EU countries, with households not filing EU taxes, and admitted to an Undergraduate or Master’s program.

Benefits

The Emile Boutmy bachelor scholarship program is awarded in many forms, as below:

Bachelors:

  • €14,720 per year for the three years of the undergraduate program.
  • €9,500 per year for the three years of the undergraduate program.
  • €6,500 per year for the three years of the undergraduate program.

If you do not validate your academic year or decide to defer the scholarship, your scholarship will be lost.

Your scholarship will be forfeited if you fail to validate your academic year.

The third year of the undergraduate program is the year abroad, and scholarship holders will keep their additional cost-of-living award and tuition fee grant (if applicable).

If the student decides to continue graduate studies at Sciences Po, the Émile Boutmy scholarship is automatically renewed.

Master’s degree Scholarship:

  • The Émile Boutmy program is a tuition grant that pays part of the tuition for the two years of the Master’s degree program. It is worth €13,100 each year.
  • Your scholarship will be forfeited if you fail to validate your academic year.
  • If you receive a scholarship and choose to postpone your admission, you will forfeit your award.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for the scholarship, students must:

  • Eligible students: first-time applicants from non-EU countries whose households do not file EU taxes admitted to an Undergraduate or Master’s program.
  • Ineligible students include:
    • Swiss and Norwegian applicants (eligible for CROUS scholarships)
    • Candidates with dual EU citizenship
    • Master’s degree applicants from Quebec (Bachelor’s degree applicants from Quebec are eligible)
    • Candidates for the Joint Master in Journalism and International Affairs or the Master in Journalism
    • Master’s dual-degree candidates, except specific Chinese nationality programs (Sciences Po/Fudan University, Sciences Po/Peking University)
    • Ph.D. program students
    • 1-year Master’s program candidates
    • Bachelor’s dual degree candidates (unless part of a special agreement)
    • Exchange students
    • Candidates applying through the French graduate admission process
  • The Émile Boutmy scholarship generally cannot be combined with other scholarships, except in rare cases approved by the jury.

Evaluation criteria

The host institution awards this scholarship according to merit and the type of profile it seeks in candidates for this program. Social criteria are also of importance.

Candidates must also demonstrate their interest in the program by directly applying through the online bachelor’s degree application form.

How to apply?

Applicants must apply for the Emile Boutmy scholarship directly in their Sciences Po online application.

Note: Students must state that they are applying for the Emile Boutmy scholarship in the “Financial information” section of their Sciences Po application, noting that it may want applicants to submit documentation outlining their family condition and proof of income (e.g., income tax return for both parents, payslips, divorce certificate, unemployment benefits, documents related to alimony, child support or retirement pensions, death certificate…)

Before the scholarship application deadline, applicants must additionally submit their language test results, if applicable.
