About the prize

TWAS-Atta-ur-Rahman Award in Chemistry is designed for young chemists working and living in one of the eligible countries for at least two years, and no more than 40 years of age. Interested applicants can ask their organizations to nominate them, or any organization can nominate their deserving or eligible candidates online for the award.

Eligibilities:

Who can be nominated?

  • TWAS members as well as science academies, national research councils, universities, and scientific institutions in developing and developed countries are eligible to nominate.
  • Applicant’s age must not be higher than 40 years.
  • Must be national of one of the developing countries.
  • Must have worked and resided in a developing country that is a scientifically and technologically lagging country (STL).
  • Must have made a significant achievement in chemistry.
  • Self-nominations are not acceptable by candidates. themselves.

Selection criteria:

  • Successful nominees will be selected according to their scientific merit.
  • TWAS will conduct the first step of screening and qualifying applicants will be submitted to the expert committee of review. And they will choose the final winner.

  • Outline the candidate’s achievements and awards in chemistry in 15 to 20 words.
  • Support statement, including candidate’s work experience in scientific context and its impact, etc.
  • A detailed account of candidates’ time spent out of his/her home country in the last two years.
  • PhD. degree details, including the field of study, year of award, and institutions.
  • Details on any academies and societies he/she is their member.
  • Brief details of any honor or distinctions received.
  • List of 10 most prominent publications in an internationally acceptable format.
  • Comprehensive yet short CV of the candidates.
