About the OSCE Academy:

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation, founded in 2002 between the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE Academy advances the principles and values of the OSCE through education, advanced research, expert training, and intellectual exchange. The academy’s highly demanding MA programs in the fields of “Economic Governance and Development” and “Politics and Security (Central Asia)” attract a total of up to 60 young professionals per year from several Central Asian countries on a competitive basis.

Job summary

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan invites applications from highly qualified academics for its newly created lecturer position in MA in Economic Governance and Development Programme. The Vacancy is re-announced.

The lecturer position will work in Bishkek and will start on 11 January 2021. The incumbent will be initially hired for the period until 31 December 2021 with a possibility for extension after mutual approval and the availability of funding in Winter Semester 2022.

Under the direct instruction of the Director and in coordination with the Head of Department of Education of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, the position holder contributes to the OSCE Academy’s MA Programme and other activities such as research and academic exchange as a member of the faculty.

Key duties and responsibilities

Teaching and other related duties:

Teaching of minimum 12 credits of graduate-level subjects to be later chosen from the available lists during 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years (Winter and Spring semesters (2020-2021 Academic Year) and (Fall semester (2021-2022 Academic Year):

Related Duties:

  • Working as a supervisor for a minimum of two MA Theses for the 2020-2021 Academic Year;
    • Participating in Thesis Colloquia, Thesis Defense, and State Examinations for the 2020-2021 Academic Year
    • contributing to the student admission process for the 2021-2022 Academic Year
    • Participating in the selection of lecturers for teaching positions in the MA programs
    •Monitoring and coordinating the review of MA program-related rules and regulations (in cooperation with the Head of the Department of Education)
    • Participating in the further advancement of MA program-related quality control mechanism and equivalent evaluation tools (in cooperation with the Head of the Department of Education)

Contributing to Research and Academic Exchange at the OSCE Academy:

  • Publishing one article in a peer-reviewed journal
    • Publishing one article in an OSCE Academy publication series (e.g. Policy Briefs; Academic Yearbook; Special Collection; Springer OAP)
    • Monitoring students, alumni, and young scholars at the Academy and advising on career development as well as assisting with research project implementation
    • Undertaking her/his own research and involving students and other faculty members
    • Launching and organizing faculty and student exchange programs with partner institutions (e.g. via Erasmus+ exchange mobility)
    • Initiating and developing partnerships with universities/institutions in the region of Central Asia and / or further abroad to facilitate academic exchange
    • providing support to academic events and activities as moderator, discussant, assessor, selector

The candidate for this position should meet the requirements below.

  • Ph.D. degree in Economics, Finance, Development Studies or a relevant field
    • Record of excellence in teaching and service
    • Record of peer-reviewed publications
    • Outstanding knowledge of English
    • Experience in teaching in an online format; familiarity with LMS Canvas, Zoom, an addition
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
    • Readiness to travel abroad to support the admission process and to improve exchange activities

Remunerations

The OSCE Academy will provide:

  • Monthly honorarium in the range of 1,490-1,800 EUR as gross salary paid in national currency. The exact amount of honoraria depend on the qualification of the candidate and requirements for tax and social fee deduction
    • Visa and work permit support (fees for visa and work permit application to be provided by applicant)
    • Office space and a computer, as well as access to all of the OSCE Academy’s facilities
  • Travel expense (only when on official duty)
