Opportunity Description

The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) accepts applications for the 2024 Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) Programs. This program offers a unique platform for accomplished undergraduate students to collaborate in teams on practical research projects presented by sponsors from various industries or the public sector.

Guided by their academic and industry mentors, each student team engages in comprehensive research to address the problem, ultimately presenting their findings through oral and written formats upon program completion. Following the RIPS program, select student teams may opt to publish or present their results at national conferences. IPAM ensures that every undergraduate student receives extensive support and incentives throughout the process.

Promoting the careers of women and minority mathematicians and scientists is a vital aspect of IPAM’s mission, and IPAM enthusiastically invites their applications. Applicants must be at least 18 to participate in either program.

The RIPS-LA program is scheduled from June 24 to August 23, 2024. During this period, students will reside in on-campus housing at UCLA and conduct their work at IPAM, benefiting from technical support and dedicated office spaces. While IPAM anticipates having nine projects, the sponsors and specific projects are still in the finalization stage.
