Application for the bp Company Net Zero Scholarship is now open. This Scholarship is organized in cooperation with One Young World (OYW) to support young individuals who are working towards creating a sustainable future through their innovative ideas in energy.

bp has set an ambition to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner and to help the world get to net zero. This means reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its operations and production, while at the same time growing new lower and zero-carbon businesses, products, and services. As bp aims for net zero, we recognize the value of listening to, learning from, and partnering with others. That’s why bp is pleased to support the Net Zero Scholarship.

The scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to join BP’s delegation at the One Young World Summit in 2023 in Belfast, with over 2000 participants, where they can exchange ideas and collaborate with other business leaders. The scholarship is available to applicants aged 18 to 30 from all countries worldwide who have demonstrated a commitment to creating positive change, leadership potential, and an understanding of local and global issues related to energy and the environment. The scholarship provides access to the One Young World Summit, hotel accommodation, flights, and meals, along with additional programming from BP.

Therefore, as bp heads towards net zero, it is happy to support the Net Zero Scholarship, which intends to identify and engage with young innovators who are reimagining energy for the planet and people today.

Scholarship benefits

The recipients will receive the following:

• Access to the One Young World Summit 2023 in Belfast
• Hotel lodging between 1-5 October
• Travel expenses to and from Belfast
• Full food costs coverage
• Ground transportation for the summit
• Access to special bp programming which includes a pre-Summit briefing, a bp-friendly gathering from the company’s internal delegation, and a post-Summit feedback session.

Net Zero Scholarship outline

Scholarship awardees will join bp’s delegation to the 2023 OYW summit in Belfast. At the summit, they will meet and exchange ideas with colleagues involved in the business. So, the scholarship looks for candidates having impactful ideas in one of the following areas:

• Advocating for forward-looking climate policies
• Boosting current decarbonized energy technologies like solar and wind
• Increasing access to energy
• Creating innovations for the reduction of emissions in households, cities, and industries

Eligibility criteria

Applicants of the Net Zero Scholarship must be:

• Between 18 – 30* years old
• Citizens of all countries are eligible to apply for this scholarship
• Demonstrated impact in one of the following areas:
  • Enhancing current decarbonized energy technologies such as solar and wind.
  • Improving access to decarbonized energy.
  • Innovating to reduce emissions in households, cities, and industries.
  • Advocating for progressive climate policies.

Evaluation criteria

One Young World will evaluate the candidates according to their:

• Demonstrated commitment to delivering positive change
• Proven leadership capacity
• Perception of key local and/ or global issues
• Background of creating fruitful and innovative ideas

OYW actively seeks and prioritizes candidates who greatly impact the abovementioned areas of intervention.
