Opportunity Description

The Warwick Chancellors International Scholarships at Warwick University are available to the top international postgraduate researchers. For the 2027-2028 entry, £5 million will be allocated for 80 Chancellor’s International Scholarships for exceptional international PhD applicants.

Applicants who contribute significantly to Warwick’s thriving global community of world-leading researchers can apply for the 42 awards made for entry for Autumn 2025. China Scholarship Council

Additional Benefits:

From CSC: A CSC rate stipend for up to 4 years and return international airfare between the UK and China.
From Warwick: A stipend enhancement to the UKRI rate for up to 4 years.

Additional Eligibility:

Hold an unconditional eligible course offer by 21 January 2027.
Hold a Peoples Republic of China Passport and be permanently resident in China or studying overseas (Hong Kong/Taiwan excluded).

Eligibility

Indicate you wish to be considered for this funding in your scholarship application.
Hold an unconditional eligible course offer by 21 January 2027 OR be within the first 12 months of an eligible course in October 2027. (Accepted outstanding conditions: completion of a degree or obtaining ATAS clearance).
Meet the CSC eligibility requirements.
Hold a People’s Republic of China Passport and either be permanently resident in China or studying overseas. (Applicants from Hong Kong or Taiwan, or those working overseas, are not eligible).
If currently or previously studying overseas, ensure you meet the CSC eligibility requirements.
Applications from any research area are welcomed. However, there are 12 CSC Priority Areas identified.

Note: You must complete the China Scholarship Council statement in your application. CSC operates a number of different scholarship schemes; candidates who apply through CSC-direct routes or transfer from other institutions are not automatically considered for the Warwick-funded elements.

The following awards will be available for entry in the autumn of 2025/26:

Full tuition fee
A 3.5-year maintenance stipend at the current UKRI rate (conditional £21300 for full-time awardees)
A one-off Research, Training and Supporting Grant (RTSG) of £5,000 to fund research-related expenses.
For eligible scholars, there is an opportunity to apply for financial support towards the cost of immigration to the UK.
Paid short-term, family, and medical leave options.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Chancellor’s International Scholarship are as follows:

To be eligible for this scholarship, apply to the University of Warwick for a PhD starting in October 2027 OR
Already enrolled in the first year of a Ph.D. or MPhil/Ph.D. at the University of Warwick; to be eligible, you must be within the first 12 months of enrolment in a PhD or MPhil/PhD at the University in October 2026
Applicants should be overseas fee-paying students.
There are no nationality requirements
Applicants from any discipline at Warwick can apply for this opportunity
Students cannot defer to the next academic year
