Opportunity Description

Admission for the Knowles Educational and Charitable Trust for International Leadership (Kectil) program is now open to talented youth in developing countries. This online mentoring program is a one year module with assignments and challenges to address the hot issues facing youth globally. Th Kectil covers topics such as entrepreneurship and innovation, male and female roles in society, good government, corruption in society, environment, peace-keeping, mental health, unemployment, early pregnancies, and female reproductive health.

This program aims to support, network, and mentor future young leaders in developing countries to enable them to bring positive changes and atmosphere in their communities, governments, and maybe even the world!

Benefits of the Kectil Web-based Leadership Program

Participants will benefit from the program as follows:

Blogs: Kectil Colleagues will access a platform to write Blog about Kectil topics, issues impacting their country or region, or current perspectives on hot topics. We publish well-written, thought-provoking pieces. Their blogs motivate and inspire coworkers who read and comment.

News: Kectil Colleagues are also provided a platform to exchange information about what is going on in their personal lives, communities, and countries. The program honors the colleagues’ academic achievements, community work, scholarships, and so on.

Regional Groups: The Kectil Program organizes discussion groups for Kectil Colleagues in different regions to stimulate talks, meet each other, debate issues of interest, and maybe meet in person. On the Colleague Connect website, the program form discussion groups. The groups are led by Youth Leadership Council Regional Leaders and Superior Performance Awardees. The group talks are facilitated by the Regional Leaders.

Youth Leadership Council: The Kectil Program establishes a Youth Leadership Council comprised of outstanding colleagues who attend the Developing Countries Youth Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout the year, the Youth Leadership Council serves as mentors and advisors. They will also oversee and operate the Kectil Alumni website.

Program Awards

The Kectil Web-based Leadership Program will honour the outstanding participants with two types of awards and certificate of compeletion as follows:

Awards:

Outstanding participants in the Kectil Program will receive with two awards: the Developing Countries Youth Leadership Atlanta Conference Awards and the Kectil Mentor Awards.

The Developing Countries Youth Leadership Atlanta Conference Award is granted to outstanding Kectil Program participants. The honorees are asked to attend a one-week intensive leadership course in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Kectil Mentor Award is given to a handful of Kectil Colleagues who have demonstrated exceptional achievement. For the next year, the Colleagues are allocated a mentor with whom they will communicate and seek advise. Mentors are typically assigned based on the awardee’s areas of interest and career path.

Certificates:

Certificates are available in four categories:

  • Youth Leadership Council Certificate
  • Certificate of Excellent Performance
  • Certificate of Superior Performance
  • Certificate of Participation

The Kectil team evaluates each Colleague’s participation over the course of the year based on the number of assignments completed and other contributions and chooses which certificate they will receive.

Outstanding performers obtain Certificates of Excellence. Throughout the year, colleagues display consistent involvement with the Program. Certificates of Superior Performance are awarded to colleagues who have made a substantial contribution. Colleagues who achieve one of these two credentials are chosen as Peer Mentors for the following cohort.

Kectil Colleagues who do not meet the requirements for either of the aforementioned credentials will be given a Certificate of Participation.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for Kectil online program:

  • Should be between 17-26 years old 
  • Must nationality of a least developed or developing countries 
  • Must be interested and passionate in social advancement and leadership in any field 
  • Be proficient in English 
  • Access to a laptop, mobile phone, and strong internet connection 
  • Wish to be a member of a global youth network. 

Program Curriculum

The KECTIL Web-based Program has 12 Modules:

  1. Introduction and Mission
  2. Lessons on leadership from Martin Luther King and other change-makers
  3. Studies enabling women to succeed in society
  4. Population growth and its effect on youth and youth unemployment and poverty employment
  5. Colonialism and occupation
  6. Innovation to advance society
  7. Entrepreneurship and corporate product development
  8. Environmental sustainability
  9. Personal and group management
  10. Good government
  11. Local projects to improve communities
  12. Thought-provoking assignments, case studies, and web sessions.
