CQT Ph.D. Scholarships consider applications year-round and prospective students may find specific projects on the jobs page. Furthermore, students may make an academic approach to the Principal Investigator (PI) of any group they would like to work with.

The first step in applying for a Ph.D. at the Centre for Quantum Technologies is to get a PI’s endorsement. The PIs or admin of the teams can guide the applicant further after their initial application.

Benefits of the CQT Ph.D. Scholarships in Quantum Technologies

Awardees of the CQT Ph.D. Scholarships will benefit from the program as follows:

  • Monthly stipend for four years:
  1. S$2,800 for international students, which increases up to S$3,300 upon passing the qualifying exam
  2. S$3,200 for Singapore citizens, the respective amounts will increase up to S$3,700 plus receiving the prevailing employer’s contribution to CPF (up to 4 years)
  3. The respective amounts for Singapore Permanent residents are $3,000 and $3,500.
  • Annual tuition fees and mandatory miscellaneous fees
  • One-off airfare reimbursement of up to S$1,500 to Singapore
  • Research allowance of S$12,000 for academic travel, purchase of books and software, and a one-off payment towards buying a computer, all subject to prior approval of all expenses.

Note: Applicants’ Cumulative Average Point (CAP) has to be at least a good 2nd Upper-Class Honours

Eligibilities and Criteria

All applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • The scholarship is open to applicants from
  • Graduate applicants interested and have a passion for research in quantum information are eligible to apply
  • Graduates should provide at least good 2nd Upper Honours or equivalent qualifications.

Required Documents

All applicants should compile and submit the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae/ CV
  • Certified copy of NRIC or Passport
  • Certified copy of National Service certificate (if applicable)
  • Certified copy of a high-school diploma or equivalent
  • Copies of awards or prizes and certificates (if any).
  • GRE scores are mandatory for applicants applying for admission in AY2023/2024.
  1. A total minimum score of 320 for the GRE Verbal (V) and Quantitative (Q) sections
  2. A minimum score of 3.5 for the Analytical (A) section with effect from August 2023
  • OpenCerts (if available)
  • Certified true copies of university transcripts and degree
  • Two letters of recommendation via email to cqtphd@nus.edu.sg.
  • One passport-sized photograph:
  1. Taken within the last three months
  2. Be clear and focus
  3. The size should be 35mm wide by 45mm high,
  4. must not have any border (non-returnable).
  • Other supporting documents that support the application, e.g., a personal statement

How to Apply for CQT Ph.D. Scholarship?

Application for CQT Ph.D. Scholarship is open throughout the year to all nationalities.

To start an application, the candidates should contact one of the Principal Investigators (PIs) first and request if they could supervise the candidate. The application begins by emailing your CV and supporting documents, e.g., academic qualifications or transcripts, in your first contact with the PI. The Principal Investigator and you should decide and agree on a preliminary project. Once the PI has agreed to supervise the candidate and decided on a project, please forward the approval email from the PI to cqtphd@nus.edu.sg.

Upon receipt of the approval email, CQT will inform the candidate to apply officially via the National University of Singapore (NUS) online application system. Meanwhile, the candidate should send hard copies of their CV and the documents mentioned above by post to the CQT Program Administrator.
