As part of the International Security Programme (ISP), the Cyber Policy Portfolio (CPP) focuses on the critical intersection of security and technology, addressing issues such as the geopolitics of cyberspace, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence in cybersecurity.

The Research Fellow will work closely with the Senior Research Fellow, contributing to groundbreaking research, thought leadership, and the strategic direction of the Cyber Policy Portfolio. This role offers an opportunity to lead and participate in innovative projects that impact global policy while engaging with a dynamic team of researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders.

  • Strong skills in public speaking, media relations, and managing digital communication channels
  • Ability to align research projects with organizational strategy and societal frameworks

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The fellows’ main duties and responsibilities include the following:

Delivery

  • Develop innovative research methodologies and produce impactful, policy-relevant publications, including briefing papers and expert comments.
  • Identify emerging research areas and shape public and policy debates.
  • Assist in managing peer review processes for Journal articles and support the Journal’s gender manifesto and mentorship program.
  • Lead project delivery, ensuring alignment with objectives, budgets, and timelines; distribute findings via seminars, workshops, and online platforms.
  • Develop and secure research funding, strengthen donor relationships, and manage diverse speaker and attendee lists for events.

Strategy

  • Design and implement research projects that align with the program’s strategic goals.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Promote research through conferences, publications, media engagements, and the institute’s online channels.

People

  • Leverage expertise and networks to support convening activities and generate influence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders globally, forming new coalitions and partnerships.
  • Collaborate closely with Chatham House research teams and external partners on project development and execution.
