Opportunity Description

The 9th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on Entrepreneurship Education is an upcoming event that will take place from 26 October 2023 to 27 October 2023. UNESCO calls for proposals from the participants to take part in the meeting. The program is unleashing the Power of Entrepreneurial Universities and TVET Institutions.

The primary aim of this United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – Asia-Pacific Programme of Educational Innovation for Development (APEID) Meeting is to foster discussions, collaboration, and knowledge sharing in Entrepreneurship Education. The 9th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on Entrepreneurship Education emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurial skills for the future. Entrepreneurs should face challenges as positive chances and consistently develop ideas to provide job opportunities for themselves and others without being intimidated by AI or bots. Universities and TVET institutions must adopt this entrepreneurial outlook to cultivate more future entrepreneurs. Meeting co-organizers UNESCO Bangkok and Zhejiang University invite all interested participants to apply for participation in the meeting.

Main Objectives:

The 9th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on Entrepreneurship Education’s primary objectives are as follows:

  • To refresh the UNESCO Entrepreneurship Education Network (EE-Net) by applying initiatives and innovative strategies. The ultimate objective of this event is to foster a vibrant community of entrepreneurs and educators passionate about promoting entrepreneurship education in Asia-Pacific.
  • Despite all the challenges, collect and gather the stories of successful entrepreneurship during the pandemic. The organizers are trying to collect valuable lessons and insights from successful entrepreneurs to share with others. The organizers intend to develop or update entrepreneurship education courses and materials.
  • To develop a comprehensive plan for the EE-Net for 2024–2030. The project will consist of an action plan and various strategies to ensure the network’s success in achieving its objectives and contributing to education transformation—achieving all the SDG 4 targets by 2030.

Thematic Focus:

This year’s theme of the UNESCO-APEID Meeting is ‘Entrepreneurship Education: Unleashing the Power of Entrepreneurial Universities and TVET Institutions.’

Topics and Activities

The two-day meeting, as scheduled, will consist of five following topics. The primary aim is to develop practical and implementable plans and strategies for establishing entrepreneurial universities and TVET institutions.

A keynote presentation will deliver each topic, followed by a group discussion. The presenters will provide guiding questions for each subject. The talks will continue parallelly, meaning participants may participate in only one session. However, each group will summarize their discussion for the benefit of others during a plenary session.

Topic 1: Governance and Management.

Guiding Questions:

  • Ways to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and culture in our institutions
  • How do you reflect entrepreneurial intent in the institution’s leadership, mission, and vision?
  • What are the implications of strategic planning, staffing, and budgeting?

Topic 2: Entrepreneurial Diagnostics

Guiding Questions:

  • Is there an entrepreneurial culture in the participants” institution?
  • How is this culture reflected?

Topic 3: Partnerships:

Guiding Questions:

  • What are the good approaches for establishing partnerships?

Topic 4: Financing Entrepreneurial Activities of Students On- and Off-Campus.

Guiding Questions:

  • What opportunities does your institution set up to encourage students to pursue entrepreneurship?

Topic 5: Teacher Training and Institutional Capacity-Building.

Guiding Questions:

  • What training opportunities are available to teachers for developing their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge?
  • Do teachers have a solid foundation in financial literacy?
  • Do they know your institution’s entrepreneurship education program?

Complementary Events

In addition to group and plenary discussions, the meeting will consist of a book launch and an exhibition area showcasing posters on the topic of Entrepreneurship Lessons from the Pandemic’.

The participants will also discuss implementing a commemorative project for former Gwang Jo Kim, UNESCO Director, honoring his contributions to entrepreneurship education. Also, the participants will talk on a guided tour of the Zhejiang University campus, highlighting its entrepreneurship education programs and activities.

Travel and Sponsorships

All participants are responsible for the cost of round-trip travel from their home country to China. Also, they should pay for their visa application.

The organizers will issue an invitation letter to support participants’ visa requests.

Local sponsorships may be available to some participants with limited numbers, which will cover accommodation, meals, and airport transfers.

Criteria for Selection of Participants

As the organizers receive a large number of applications for these meetings, they will consider three specific criteria for their selection of participants:

  1. The quality of the inputs in the application form.
  2. There is a need to ensure a fair distribution of participants across all countries.
  3. The ability of individuals to finance their travel expenses for attending the meeting in person in China.
