Opportunity Description

The Royal Society of Biology Photography Competition 2025 is now open for entries. This year’s theme is “Restoring Biodiversity and Habitat”, inviting amateur photographers to capture stories of ecosystems coming back to life creatively. Photographers can showcase everything from rewilding landscapes to the return of wildlife in urban spaces.

The competition is free to enter, and entrants can submit up to three images through the competition page on mySociety.

Prizes include £1,000 for Photographer of the Year (18+) and £500 for Young Photographer of the Year (under 18).

The winners will receive the prizes as follows:

  • Winners over 18 years will receive 1000£ top prize

Eligibility Criteria

Who can enter the Competition?

  • Open to amateur photographers worldwide, including outside the UK.
    (Defined as individuals earning less than 50% of their annual income from photography)
  • Entrants may compete in one of two categories:
    • Photographer of the Year (18 and over)
    • Young Photographer of the Year (under 18)
  • All sections of the entry form must be completed to qualify.
  • Past photographs (not necessarily taken in 2025) are allowed.
  • Entrants are encouraged to prioritize personal safety and the well-being of others when taking photos.
  • Before submitting entries, all participants must read and agree to the full competition terms and conditions.

Submission specification:

  • Applicants can submit up to three images
  • Images must be in high-resolution JPEGs or PNG, not more than 10 MB.
  • The submission should be the original work of applicants (if selected as a successful winner they will be asked for original files, if they could not have provided, they will not receive any award.)

Required documents

Applicants must submit the following items:

  • Fully completed entry form (all sections).
  • Declaration of compliance with competition rules and accuracy of submitted information.
  • Proof of age (for entrants in the Young Photographer category).
  • Signed parental or guardian consent form (for entrants under 18, especially under 13).
  • Contact details of parent or guardian (for entrants under 13).
  • Original image files (if shortlisted and requested by judges).
