Introduction
Are you a high school or undergraduate student passionate about shaping the world around you? Do you want to amplify your voice on a global stage while competing for a $1,000 cash prize? The New Voters x ChallengeUS Future Leaders Competition for Summer 2026 is now open, and it offers you the perfect platform to share your vision and secure funding for your educational pursuits.
Hosted in partnership between New Voters and ChallengeUS, this competition aims to critically engage and amplify youth voices from around the world in civic ideas and challenges. For this summer cycle, participants are asked to address a specific prompt: What experiences have shaped your belief in whether or not you can make a difference? In total, five exceptional students will be recognized, including one Grand Prize Winner and four Category Winners.

If you are selected as a winner for the Future Leaders Competition, your awards package includes:

Award Categories
Participants are welcomed and encouraged to submit entries to multiple categories to maximize their chances of winning. However, winning contestants will only be awarded in ONE category.
- Creative Writing: Personal narratives, stories, poems, written speeches, and memoirs (1,250 words max).
- Analytical Writing: Argumentative essays, research papers, literature reviews, and case studies utilizing sources and citations (1,250 words max).
- Speech: Verbal speech or presentation submitted in MP4 video format (10 minutes max).
- Art: Drawings, paintings, digital artworks, photographs, mixed media pieces, and cartoons.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Future Leaders Competition, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Academic Requirements
- You must be currently enrolled in an accredited high school or undergraduate college/university.
- Students taking academic gap years or semesters are eligible.
- Homeschooled students are eligible.
Nationality & Citizenship
You may reside in any country. The competition is open to all nationalities.
Language & Authenticity Requirements
- Submissions (for speech or writing) must be in English.
- You must not have previously won first place (“Best Overall”) in any prior ChallengeUS competitions.
- Your submission must be entirely original. Any use of AI or plagiarism is strictly prohibited and will result in automatic disqualification.
Required Documents
When preparing your submission, you will need to follow the specific formatting guidelines based on your chosen category:
- For Writing (Creative & Analytical): Submit a PDF format document with a readable font size (11 or 12 pt.) and a professional font style (Times New Roman, Arial). Maximum limit is 1,250 words (citations do not count toward the limit for analytical writing).
- For Speech: Submit an MP4 format video file with high audio and video quality. Maximum limit is 10 minutes.
- For Art: Submit high-quality files in PDF, JPEG, or PNG format.

Frequently Asked Questions
When will I be notified about contest results?
Contest results will be released by the end of October 2026. Due to the volume of submissions, individual updates or feedback on the status of specific submissions will not be provided.
Can I submit to multiple categories?
Yes! In fact, you are encouraged to submit to multiple categories (Creative Writing, Analytical Writing, Speech, Art) in order to maximize chances at winning. However, please be aware winning contestants will only be awarded for ONE category.
I previously participated in a ChallengeUS competition. Can I still participate?
Participants from previous competition cycles are indeed eligible to enter the current competition cycle unless they previously won “Best Overall” in any of the prior competitions.
I’m not sure if my submission falls under “creative” or “analytical” writing. What should I do?
If your submission utilizes citations or sources, it likely falls under “analytical writing.” If not, it likely falls under “creative writing.” You are welcome to submit to both categories if you are unsure.
