Academic Program and Concentrations

To graduate from the MIPD program, students must complete a minimum of 36 credits, which includes a research project. The program offers the following concentrations:

  • 1st Concentration: Intellectual Property and Innovation Policy
  • 2nd Concentration (Optional): Available for all concentrations except the Intellectual Property concentration.

Eligibility

To be considered for the MIPD program and scholarship, applicants must meet specific requirements, particularly regarding English proficiency.

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency by meeting one of the following minimum scores (tests must be taken within two years prior to the application deadline):
    • TOEFL (iBT, including Home Edition): 72 (Note: For tests taken from Jan. 21, 2026, the minimum score is 4)
    • IELTS (including Online): 6.0
    • OPIC: IM3
    • TEPS: 286
    • Duolingo: 100

Exemption: Applicants who have received their Bachelor’s degree or higher from the following countries are automatically exempt from submitting an English Proficiency Test Score: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, and the United States.

  • Online Statement of Purpose: Consists of 5 questions depending on the program
  • Bachelor’s Diploma: Must be in English (Submit Master’s degree diploma as well, if applicable)
  • Bachelor’s Transcript: Must be in English (Submit Master’s academic transcript as well, if applicable)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation: Submitted through the online system
  • Standardized English Test Report: Must be valid (generally within 2 years)
  • Proof of Employment: Optional
  • Photo: Required

FAQ

Q1: Do I need to apply to both KDI School and WIPO? A: Yes, it is mandatory to submit applications to both the KDI School’s Online Application System and the WIPO Application Portal to be considered for the program.

Q2: I received my Bachelor’s degree in Canada. Do I still need to submit an IELTS or TOEFL score? A: No, applicants who received their Bachelor’s degree or higher from Canada (and several other listed countries like the US, UK, Australia, etc.) are automatically exempt from submitting an English proficiency test score.

Q3: Is work experience required for this program? A: Providing proof of employment is listed as an “Optional” requirement in the document list, so it is not strictly mandatory, but it may strengthen your application if you have relevant experience.
