Opportunity Description

The Kinship Conservation Fellowship applications are open to international people who work to protect nature worldwide. This program helps the fellows in their jobs and teaches them new skills, ideas, and tools to make their projects go faster in their country.

This in-person Fellowship lasts a month and focuses on finding ways to protect nature that make sense in the business world. It also helps the fellows become better leaders in their field. During the program, the participants will talk with others, do exercises to think about big systems, and learn from each other. They will hear about different stories and clever ideas to solve hard problems, and they can use these in their work.

The program in 2024 will take place from June 30 to July 30 at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, USA.

A faculty of global experts will deliver the program’s curriculum, which is to particular opportunities of each year’s cohort and introduces Fellows to the six Kinship Conservation Pillars for market-based solutions:

  • Leading Adaptive
  • Scale Iteration
  • Designing for Commons Governance
  • Identifying an Economic Engine
  • Financing Conservation
  • Evaluating the Impact

The faculty collaborates closely with each Fellow to explore innovative applications of market-based approaches to environmental challenges. Alongside classroom training, the program incorporates field trips addressing real-world conservation issues, providing first-hand insights into topics crucial to the region, such as sustainable forestry and fishing practices.

Additionally, Fellows have sufficient time to explore Bellingham and foster connections with peers. Meal nights, featuring international flavors, serve as informal gathering opportunities for Fellows, faculty, and Kinship Foundation staff, fostering bonds that evolve into lasting, lifelong friendships.
