About the call

Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has issued its 4^th round of Call for Innovation to scholars, innovators, entrepreneurs, SMEs, businesses, and institutions working with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of the 2021 Transform Fund is to support recovery from COVID-19 with the goal of building a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous future for the post-pandemic era. Moreover, this year’s funding primarily focuses on IsDB’s member countries to help innovative ideas and solutions make an economic and social impact for the hard-hit communities. Target countries: Member Countries of IsDB

Funding amount: 500 million USD

The Science, Technology and Innovation Transform Fund (STI-TF) will identify, assist and recognize high-impact proposals supporting the following SDGs.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

SDG3: Good health & well-being

SDG4: quality education

SDG6: clean water and sanitation

SDG7: Affordable and clean energy

SDG9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Eligibilities

• Anyone or organization who has an innovative idea or project that can address development challenges and create job opportunities that benefit people in the IsDB Member Countries can apply for this opportunity.
• The aim of the fund is to support early-stage innovators and scientists who need initial funding or growth capital for their projects/initiatives.
• The grant-receiving project(s) must be implemented in an IsDB Member Country.

Specifically, the projects and activities of the Fund will be administered by the following operational principles: IsDB-STI.

Therefore, applications for funding have to possess the following attributes:

• Support sustainability science ideas/projects with an emphasis on innovations benefiting the Muslim World and having the following characteristics:
• Disruptive, transformative, and stimulating innovations that are relevant to one or more SDGs.
• Feasible and high-impact innovations having scalable solutions.
• Be adaptable, replicable, readily diffusible, affordable, and accessible.
• Fall into diverse sectors e.g., education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation, and infrastructure.

Application Categories

There are four funding categories and two modes of funding (grant and equity participation/investment) in the Transform Fund:

1 – New Ideas with Proof of Concept with grants ranging from USD 50,000-100,000

2 – Scaling up of Innovative Programs in the Private Sector with Private Sector Equity Investment up to USD 300,000

3 – Commercialization of Technology in the Private Sector with Private Sector Equity Investment up to USD 1,000,000

4 – Capacity Building in Science, Technology, & Innovation with Grants ranging from USD 100,000-150,000
