Opportunity Description
The Global Young Academy is now accepting applications for its 2025 Call for New Members. This prestigious opportunity is open to young, independent scholars who demonstrate both outstanding research excellence and a strong commitment to creating societal impact.
As a global organization, GYA values diversity and encourages applications from scholars of all disciplines, including natural, physical, and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities. Applications are also welcomed from individuals working in government, industry, and the non-governmental sectors. Special encouragement is given to women, underrepresented groups, and candidates from diverse backgrounds and regions.
New members are expected to contribute actively to GYA’s mission, which includes advancing science, engaging in policy dialogue, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and promoting science outreach worldwide. Selected applicants should be prepared to participate in the GYA Annual General Meeting, scheduled for 28 June – 3 July 2026 in Bremen, Germany.

Eligibility Criteria
The following are some application requirements that all candidates must meet:
- The application is open to candidates of all nationalities
- PhD or equivalent degree required.
- Applicants born in or after 1985 are eligible without restrictions.
- Applicants born before 1985 must have obtained their PhD in 2018 or later, or provide strong justification.
- Demonstrated research excellence with a proven track record and future potential.
- Clear commitment to societal engagement and global impact.
- Early- to mid-career stage with independence in research.
- Willingness to actively contribute at least 4 hours per month to GYA projects and activities.
Expectations
Each selected candidate must fulfill these expectations:
- Attend the GYA Annual General Meeting each year.
- Contribute at least 4 hours per month to GYA programmes, projects, or committees.
- Engage in activities such as science-for-policy, policy-for-science, outreach, and education.
- Support science diplomacy and collaboration with young academies and GYA partners.
- Be available to attend the next AGM on 28 June – 3 July 2026 in Bremen, Germany.
Required Documents
All applicants must prepare and submit the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Maximum 4 pages (achievements summarized, not publication list).
- Letter(s) of Support: At least 1 (maximum 3), from referees who know your academic standing and societal engagement.
- Data Protection / Declaration / Signature Form.
- Completed Online Application Form: Includes short essay-style responses.
