Opportunity Description
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in partnership with the Hungarian Government, offers a limited number of scholarships to applicants from Afghanistan and other eligible countries to study in Hungary. International applicants in Agricultural Water Management Engineering and Biotechnology can pursue their master’s degrees at the Hungarian University of Agriculture in Budapest.
The FAO-Hungarian Go6ernment Scholarship is a fully funded program covering application and tuition fees, accommodations, health insurance, stipend, and subsistence expenses. All allowances above are the Hungarian government fund in 2025.

This mutual Scholarship will cover students’ following costs:

Note: The scholarship allowances are only for the principal applicants. The applicant’s family members are not eligible to benefit from the costs.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the FAO-Hungarian Government Scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold citizenship of one of the following eligible countries
- Applicants should hold a BSc/MSc or equivalent
- Demonstrate excellent school achievements
- Prove English language proficiency for English-taught courses
- Demonstrate interest and motivation
- Be in a good health condition
- Preference goes to candidates who are under 30-year-old

Candidates of the FAO-Hungarian Government Scholarship should be residents of any of the following countries:

Required Documents
All applicants should prepare and submit the following documents:
- Scholarship Application Form
- Updated curriculum vitae
- Copy of undergraduate degree diploma and transcript/report of the study or its equivalent
- English language proficiency documents
- First or information page of the passport
- One recommendation letter
- Motivation letter
- Medical certificate from a medical doctor.
- Excellent conduct diploma or certificate from a local police authority.
Note: All mentioned documents must be in English. Otherwise, applicants should submit a certified translation of any document other than English.
Selection Process of FAO-Hungarian Government Scholarship
The selection process has two phases as follows:
Phase 1: In this step, FAO will pre-screen applicants and send their applications to the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary. The Ministry will then send them to the corresponding University chosen by the applicants.
Phase 2: Shortlisted applicants may have a written or oral English test as part of the admission procedure. The University will have a different selection process later. Then, they will inform each of the successful candidates about their results. The University will only select the students without any involvement on the part of FAO. Finally, the Ministry will notify the successful students.
