Applications are now open for the Chinese Government Scholarship for international students 2025.  The Chinese Government Scholarship – Type B (Chinese University Program) provides an incredible opportunity for international students to pursue postgraduate studies at Zhejiang University, renowned for its excellence in research and education.

Scholarship Benefits

The Bilateral Program is Type A in the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) covering:

  • Full tuition waiver
  • Free on-campus accommodation or accommodation subsidy
  • Monthly stipend :
    • Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;
    • Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance of CNY 800 per person per year

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible.

  • Applicants must not hold Chinese citizenship.
  • Master’s applicants: Bachelor’s degree holders under 35 years old.
  • Doctoral applicants: Master’s degree holders under 40 years old.
  • Proficiency in English or Chinese (as required by the program).
  • Good health (supported by a physical examination form).
  • Clean criminal record (Non-Criminal Record Certificate required).

Required Documents for Application

Applicants must use the Zhejiang University Online Application System for International Students to upload original or notarized scanned copies of the following materials:

  1. Passport Copy: The passport must be valid beyond March 1, 2026.
  2. Highest Degree Certificate: Applicants using a pre-graduation or student status certificate must provide the Bachelor’s diploma at registration.
  3. Academic Transcripts: For all Bachelor’s degree studies.
  4. Language Proficiency Certificate: HSK certificate of level 5 (180 points) or above, GRE Remarks 320, GMAT 550, IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90, Duolingo 120, Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) 180, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) 180
  5. Personal Statement: A 1,500-word document in Chinese or English detailing academic/work experience, reasons for application, and study proposal.
  6. Recommendation Letters: Two letters from full or associate professors with signatures, phone numbers, and email addresses.
  7. Supervisor Acceptance Form (if applicable): 2025 version only; required for certain programs.
  8. Academic Publications: Copies of published papers or achievements (if applicable).
  9. Test Scores: GRE or NTS-GAT scores (encouraged).
  10. Applicants with Former Chinese Citizenship: Must provide:
    • Proof of Chinese citizenship cancellation.
    • Proof of household registration cancellation.
    • Proof of foreign citizenship acquisition.
    • Nationality Status and Confirmation Letter (download).
  11. Applicants Born Abroad to Chinese Parents Must provide the following:
    • Proof of foreign citizenship acquisition at birth.
    • Parent’s permanent foreign residency proof before the applicant’s birth.
    • Nationality Status and Confirmation Letter (download).
  12. Commitments for Application: Complete, sign, and upload the required PDF form.

Notes:

  • Ensure the passport submitted is the latest version. If renewed, approval is needed to update passport details post-admission.
  • All documents must be in Chinese or English; translations require notarization.
  • Do not submit hard copies or email documents; only online uploads are accepted.
  • Supplementary materials may be requested.
  • Policies are subject to updates as per higher authorities.

Selection Process

  • Applications undergo a preliminary review and a video interview for shortlisted candidates. Selection is based on research ability, academic performance, language skills, and interview results.
  • The list of selected candidates is submitted to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) for review.
  • Final results are announced by late July or early August 2025, and admission documents are sent to the awardees.
