Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) applications are now open to international students at Dalian Maritime University (DMU) in 2023. This opportunity is a fully-funded scholarship from China’s Ministry of Education (MOE). The primary goal of the CGS is to promote educational exchange agreements between the Chinese government and other countries’ governments, universities, and international organizations. International students who wish to pursue their master’s and doctoral studies in China are welcome to apply for this opportunity.

The Chinese Ministry of Education has designed this program, and the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) is the only body responsible for managing and administering it. International students submitting applications should apply through the CSC website.

Benefits of the Chinese Government Scholarship

CGS- Chinese Government Scholarship provides the following allowances at Dalian Maritime University (DMU):

  • Free tuition and fees;
  • Free on-campus accommodation;
  • Medical insurance for international students and protection scheme;
  • Monthly stipends are as follows:
  1. Master’s students: 3,000 RMB/month
  2. Doctoral students: 3,500 RMB/month

Requirements for the Chinese Government Scholarship

Applicants should meet the following criteria to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship at the DMU:

  • Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens of any nationality;
  • Be in good health conditions;
  • Must not be a registered student in any of the Chinese universities at the time of application;
  • Master’s degree applicants should be under the age of 35 and provide a bachelor’s degree;
  • Doctoral applicants must be under the age of 40 and provide a Master’s degree;
  • Selected study programs should belong to the same discipline as their highest level of education;
  • Recipients of CGS and local governments in China are not eligible for this opportunity.

Required Documents

Dalian Maritime University (DMU) will ask applicants for all the application materials listed below:

  • Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form in Chinese or English;
  • Notarized copy of highest degree certificates;
  • Academic transcripts from bachelor’s degree onward;
  • Certificate of employment for employed applicants;
  • Official proof of student status for students who graduate of the current year;
  • One Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese with a minimum of 2000 characters for masters and 300 characters for Ph.D. or in English 2500 words;
  • Two recommendation letters from university professors or associate professors;
  • Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form issued within the last six months
  • Certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued within the last six months;
  • Copy of applicant’s passport;
  • Language proficiency certificates (copy of HSK certificate);
  • Photocopy of TOEFL or IELTS Test Report;
  • Copy of any published paper, award, scholarship, or any other certificate of academic ability, the title, abstract, etcetera.

Note: All documents should be in English or Chinese or have certified translations for documents that are not in the mentioned languages.

How to Apply for the (CGS) Chinese Government Scholarship?

All applicants who wish to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) at Dalian Maritime University (DMU) follow these instructions:

Applicants should send their application materials to DMU International Education College (IEC) before March 2023. IEC will select eligible candidates and send their documents to relevant faculties.

DMU will announce the assessment result on its website of IEC by the end of April and then report the results to China Scholarship Council (CSC). Finally, DMU will award scholarships to students with official CSC approval. Applicants will receive the Admission Notice and Visa application form (JW201) from the DMU by the end of July.

Applicants should complete the online application procedure at CSC Online Application System for International Students. Enter the System, fill in all required information, and submit the completed Application Form for the Chinese Government Scholarship online. Finally, print two hard copies of the application.

Important Note: DMU agency number is 10151. Please submit a complete application package with all required documents. Otherwise, applications will not be eligible for review.
