Hohai University accepts applications for Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) from international students for 2026-2027. The scholarships are government-funded programs administered by Chinse Scholarship Council (CSC) available to outstanding students to study master’s or PhD at Hohai University,  one of the oldest Chinese and high-ranking universities.

About The Chinese University Program (Type B)/High-Level Graduate Student

To apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship Bilateral Program (Type B), applicants should complete the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and Hohai University Online Applications, respectively. Applicants should note that the Chinese government scholarship is available based on an annual evaluation criterion. The University agency number is 10294 for the current year.

The High-Level Graduate Student Program is a scholarship initiative by the China Scholarship Council in partnership with Hohai University. It supports outstanding students to study in China, covering tuition, on-campus accommodation, living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance.

Hohai University selects international students with strong academic records, professional abilities, and potential for future development. Selection follows a process of individual application, college recommendation, expert evaluation, and selective admission. Final admission is subject to approval by the China Scholarship Council.

The Chinese Government Scholarship  offered by Hohai University for Postgraduate studies covers:

  • Monthly Stipend (Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month and PhD students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the Hohai University Postgraduate Scholarships:

  • Hold non-Chinese citizens from any country in the world;
  • Be in good mental and physical health;
  • Hold a valid passport;
  • Obey Chinese laws and have respect for its customs and cultures;
  • For a master’s degree, applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
  • For the doctoral degree, applicants should hold a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
  • Should meet the graduate-level program language requirements by providing TOEFL or IELTS proof of their English proficiency.

Applicants who wish to apply for these opportunities should apply via the online Hohai University application portal. Also, applicants shall complete the China Scholarship Council’s online application using the Type B, University agency number: 10294. Consequently, the CSC will fund successful applications.

  • Passport Copy: Valid until September 2026; apply for a new one if expiring before then.
  • Notarized Highest Diploma: Prospective graduates must provide proof of student status. Non-Chinese/English documents need notarized translations.
  • Academic Transcripts: From undergraduate onwards, sealed by the institution. Non-English transcripts require notarized English translations.
  • Language Certificates: Non-native English speakers must submit IELTS or TOEFL scores.

Important Notes:

  • All applicants should pay a 400 RMB non-refundable application fee.
