Introduction
As part of the United Nation’s 2021 “High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development” that is convened under the umbrella of the Economic and Social Council from 6 July to 15 July 2021, the UN 2021 edition of SDGs Learning, Training and Practice will be held virtually as a special event to the forum.
This is jointly organized by the Division for Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA/ DSDG), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Mode of the forum: Online via online meeting platforms and, Covid-permitting, the organizers will consider the likelihood of hosting some sessions in Ney York, USA.

What does SDGs learning, training and practice include?
It is a series of capacity building and knowledge acquisition sessions conducted as a Special Event to the HLPF that features speakers and experts from several sectors on crucial topics relating to the implementation of the SDGs under review in 2021.
What does the forum include?
In the forum, participants will discuss to explore the different aspects of the response to the COVID-19 epidemic, various measures and global collaboration to bring it and its impact under control as well as how we can put the world back on a trajectory to be able to achieve SDGs by 2030.
The theme of the forum and training
The SDG Learning, Training and Practice Special Event will comply with the 2021 HLPF theme: “Sustainable and strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that advances the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective route for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”.
Objectives
The aim of SDGs Learning, Training & Practice 2021 edition workshops is to advance:
- Knowledge and skills learning
- Networking
- Sharing experiences and peer-to-peer collaboration
- Learning about practical actions and best practices
- Capacity building
- Practical policy integration and consistency
Eligibilities for Learning Sessions Proposals submission
- Governments of member countries, international organizations, academic institutions, stakeholders and community organizations interested in organizing a SDGs Learning, Training & Practice session could submit one learning session proposal.
- Submissions should in English.
- There is no fee for submission or confirmation of proposal.
- Each organization can submit only one proposal.
Who can participate in the learning sessions?
- Everyone interested in the session can participate but they should be registered for the event.
- UNDESA and UNITAR will manage digital logistics for the event setting up a registration form and sharing its link with the organizers of each session separately.
- Each session will have the capacity to host 1000 participants.
Selection criteria
The organizers will select the courses according to:
- The quality of proposals
- Relevance to the HLPF theme,
- Emphasis of the 2021 SDG Learning, Training, and Practice priorities (as indicated above),
- The know-how of the organizers, and enthusiasm to generate the expected output.
