Opportunity Description

Application for AMA+ (Art Major Asian Scholarships) is now open to students from Afghanistan and 138 other countries (listed below) who want to pursue their Major in Arts on a fully funded scholarship. AMA (Art Major Asian) Scholarship is an Official Development Assistance (ODA) project of the Ministry of Culture, sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea offered for international students to study for their Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree at the Korean National University of Arts in the academic year of 2026.

Art Major Asian Scholarships Benefits

The art major scholarship at the Korea National Institute of Arts (KArts) provides the following benefits:

  • Airfare: Economy class ticket provided for entry and graduation between the home country and Korea
  • Monthly Allowance: 800,000 KRW per month
  • Korean Language Training: 6-month intensive course before enrollment
  • Tuitions: Full coverage for regular semesters
  • Settlement Allowance: 200,000 KRW for initial entry to Korea
  • Graduation Thesis Allowance: Up to 1,000,000 KRW
  • Korean Proficiency Grants: 100,000 KRW per month for one year
  • Medical Insurance: Coverage under Korea’s National Health Insurance

Who Can Apply for AMA Scholarships?

Applicants who apply to the Art Major Asian Scholarships should meet the following requirements:

  •  Applicants and their parents must hold citizenship of OECD DAC Recipient Countries.
  • Completion of secondary education or bachelor’s degree program before admission.
  • Bachelor’s program applicants must hold a high school diploma; equivalent education recognized by the Korean Ministry of Education is accepted.
  • Master’s program applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Applicants graduating by the start of program, must provide proof of expected graduation and Korean Language proficiency.
  • Each department sets a proficiency in the Korean language
  • A valid TOPIK level 5 or above score is required; alternative certifications may be considered.
  • If the applicant doesn’t meet the Korean language proficiency requirement, they should attend Korean Language training starting in September 2024.
  • Submission of portfolios is required for each department unless otherwise stated.
  • All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, for the whole program duration.
  • The final grantees are expected to arrive by the end of August/November 2025 for Korean language training unless exempted with TOPIK level 5 or 6.

How do I apply for the Art Major Asian Scholarships?

Required documents (in Korean or English)

Applicants of this scholarship should provide the following documents:

  • Application Form
  • Personal Statement
  • Study Plan
  • Personal Medical Assessment
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation (signed within six months; recommendations from certain agencies may receive additional points)
  • Letter of Consent (Release of Information Form)
  • Official High School Diploma and Diploma Certificate from previous institutions (translated, notarized, and authenticated)
  • Official Academic Transcript (translated, notarized, and authenticated)
  • Copy of Passport of applicant and parents (or valid local ID card)
  • Official document indicating nationality of applicant & parents (Birth Certificate or Certificate of family registration)
  • Proof of Language Proficiency (TOPIK for Korean, TOEFL, IELTS, etc. for English)
  • Portfolio (with name on each page/item)
  • Certificates of relevant work experiences, awards, and achievements (optional)

 

Important Notes:
  • All application documents must be submitted before the online application deadline; no additions or amendments are allowed after the deadline.
  • Documents should be in Korean or English; TOPIK 4 or equivalent holders must submit [Form 2] Personal Statement and [Form 3] Study Plan in Korean.
  • Do not alter given formats; remove instructions and directions in blanks.
  • Date format: YYYY.MM.DD.
  • Attach additional evidential documents in case of name or date of birth inconsistencies.
  • Recommendation letters must include personal contact and the original signature. Once accepted, sealed letters should be scanned and uploaded, then submitted as originals.
  • Submit valid TOPIK scores; other language test scores cannot be substituted.
  • Dual applications are not accepted; applying for multiple programs results in automatic rejection.
  • Incomplete or inaccurate documents may lead to rejection or scholarship revocation even after entry into Korea.
  • Grantees enrolled elsewhere must terminate their student status before entering Korea.
  • Final grantees must submit original documents; authenticated copies must be provided if unavailable.
  • All documents should be A4 sized; smaller ones should be attached to A4 paper, and larger ones should be folded to A4 size.
  • Submitted original documents will not be returned.
