Are you a young advocate passionate about effecting change in your community? Are you actively involved in national or regional advocacy efforts? Ready to amplify the voices of young people on a global scale? Apply for the Young Emerging Leaders Program (YEL).

The Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global) and the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) invite young advocates worldwide to apply for our joint Young Emerging Leaders Program (YEL). This leadership initiative aims to cultivate a cadre of influential young advocates who will actively shape global policy and health governance. The YEL program seeks to enhance youth representation on international platforms such as the United Nations General Assembly, the World Health Organization, and the Global Fund.

GNP+ and Y+ Global will select 15 YEL advocates to address HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Experience in advocacy and movement-building project implementation is required.
  • Must have a connection or attachment to a Y+ Global country office or Key Population-led organizations and PLHIV networks where Y+ Global doesn’t have an office. A letter of recommendation from these organizations describing the candidate’s skills and experience is necessary.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in English reading and speaking is preferred; with translation support available, Arabic, French, and Portuguese speakers are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in mobilizing and recruiting young advocates for community events, campaigns, and meetings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic proficiency in computer or information technology (IT) skills, including Google Drive, Microsoft Word, email, social media, and internet access

Ideal Candidates:

  • Young individuals living with HIV or from key populations: sex workers, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people who use drugs
  • Applicants must be 18 to 25 years old.
  • Willingness, commitment, and availability to participate in program activities until December 2024, including at least two virtual trainings/meetings monthly
  • Preparedness to publicly represent their communities, with an existing social media presence valued
  • Experience in advocating and engaging with stakeholders at the national level; engagement with global platforms is desirable.
  • Dedication to human rights principles and inclusive approaches
  • Excellence-driven, creative, and proactive work ethic
  • Passion and knowledge about HIV and SRHR activism.
