The SJTU scholarship covers the following:

Monthly stipend of 1100 RMB to 2500 RMB (based on the degree and duration of the program)

Undergraduate scholarship types:

First-Class Scholarship: Covers full tuition, living allowance (2,500 CNY per month), accommodation subsidy, and insurance
Second-class Scholarship: Covers 50% tuition, accommodation subsidy (1,100 CNY per month), insurance
Third-Class Scholarship: Covers 25% tution and accommodation subsidy (1,100 CNY per month),Insurance

Who is eligible?

Applicants who meet the following requirements can apply to the scholarships offered by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU):

Have the citizenship of any country other than China.
Be in a good health situation (physically and mentally).
Possess outstanding academic performance and potential.
Applicants of master’s degree programs should have obtained a bachelor’s degree and PhD applicants should have master’s degree.
Be proficient in Chinese and/or English

Language requirements:

Applicants to Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s (SJTU) international graduate programs must demonstrate English proficiency unless they completed a degree in an approved English-speaking country within two years of admission. Accepted proficiency tests include GRE (≥320), GMAT (≥550), IELTS Academic (≥6.0), TOEFL iBT (≥85), and Cambridge certificates (CAE ≥176, CPE ≥180). Test scores must be valid at the time of application, generally within 2 years for IELTS/TOEFL and 5 years for GRE/GMAT.

For programs taught in Chinese, applicants generally need HSK Band 5 (≥200) or Band 6 (≥180) certificates within 5 years, or proof of prior education in Chinese. Specific programs have unique requirements: the School of Humanities requires HSK Band 6 for certain majors, and MBA/IMBA programs at Antai College and the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance have distinct score thresholds for both English and Chinese tracks, sometimes requiring interviews or higher scores (e.g., IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 100 for English Literature).

How to apply?

Applicants should apply online and pay the non-refundable application fee of RMB 800 (USD 120).

Applicants can apply to scholarship through two channels: Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) or through Chinese Embassies.

Students applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship should directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate.
