Opportunity Description

The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is pleased to announce the smalls grants to accept applications from researchers around the globe to research tropical medicine or global health.

These small grants designed by the partnership of the National Institute for Health Research and Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene to support up to 100 small grants of applicants from developing or low-income countries. Read and know more about the program details.

Duration: One year

Amount of grant:

  • 5000 £ including VAT

One of the successful winner will receive fund from the resources below, and will attend to another specific award activity:

  • Sir Leonard Rogers Fund
  • Denis Burkitt Fellowship Fund
  • Garnham Fund
  • Centenary fellowship appeal fund.

The grant expected to use for the followings:

  • Consumables
  • Field costs such as salary or per diems.
  • Traveling expenses.
  • Accommodation.
  • Items of equipment or software.

Themes areas:

  • Tropical diseases neglect by focusing on their overlap with non-communicable diseases and the SDGs.
  • Malaria with focusing on drug resistance.
  • Focusing on human, animal, and environmental health in social contexts.
  • Political and social issues.
  • New disease but not limited to.
  • Drug-resistant infections.

Eligibilities:

  • Must be in early in a related career.
  • Provide a clear research plan for which applicants are looking support.
  • Must have working or affiliated with an organization.
  • Provide a limited alternative fund resource.
  • Applicants must access to enough supervision.
  • Must have adequate insurance to perform the research.
  • Obtain an appropriate bank account but not using a third party.
  • Must be a member of RSTMH; if not, successful winners will join RSTMH before funding.
  • Must not receive the small grant before.
  • Applicants are allowed to submit one application each year.
  • Grants will not transfer to someone else.
  • Ability to start the project within four months of receiving the grant.
  • It must be agreed to non-personal information.
  • Must fill and completed.
  • Must not focus on past jobs.
  • Applicants need to provide two professional references. One reference should be from the applicant’s employing organization, and the other one should be the applicant’s mentor or supervisor.

Requirements of the winners:

  • Applicants need to submit a minimum of 1000 words report three months before the project going to finished.
  • The reports must contain the followings:
    • Project outcome
    • Project result.
    • Project impact on the applicant’s career, current research, tropical medicine field of global health, any other way that grants can help you.
    • Provide images that show the research illustrate and outcomes.
    • Plan of dissemination of project results.

Important notes:

  • If applicants could not submit the reports on time, they must reimburse the full value of the grant to RSTMH. And will not be considered for future funding.
  • Applicants will receive exceptional support from RSTMH.
  • If applicants disseminate results and acknowledge the RSTMH support, they need to recover and future grants and will not be considered in the next program.
  • The result of the successful winner will be announced on the website, social media channels.
  • When applicants submit the final report, they may ask to showcase their works in the program journals, meetings, and communication channels.
