Scholarship Summary

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship at the University of Toronto is offered to international students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and creativity, as well as those recognized as leaders in their school, and who are willing to study at one of the world’s top universities.

These annual scholarship applications are now open to international candidates from around the world, including international students studying at Canadian high schools and colleges. The approximate number of scholarships reaches 37 students each year and is named Lester B. Pearson Scholars.

Who Can Apply for the Pearson Scholarship?

Applicants should meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Pearson Scholarship:

  • Be an international student from around the world or studying in Canada
  • Be non-Canadian, requiring a study permit
  • Studying in your final year of secondary school or having graduated no earlier than June 2025
  • Beginning your studies at the University of Toronto in September 2026
  • Meet English language proficiency tests:
  1. IELTS 6.5
  2. TOEFL iBT: Minimum Requirement: total score of 88 + 22 on Writing/ Speaking sections
  3. Duolingo: 120
  4. Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): 70
  5. Cambridge English C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: overall 180

Ineligibilities

The following category of applicants is not eligible to apply for the Pearson Scholarship:

  • Students already attending post-secondary studies are not eligible
  • Those who want to participate in another post-secondary institution to start their studies in January 2026 are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply?

Interested applicants who want to apply for the B. Pearson Scholarship at the University of Toronto should follow these steps:

  • Applicants should receive a nomination from their school (If your high school is not contacted/verified, they are asked to apply here in October)
  • Applicants should submit their applications for admission by the proper deadlines to start their studies in October 2026.
  • After receiving a nomination and applying to the university, you will get a personalized and secure link to the Lester B. Pearson International scholarship application; then, you can fill out and complete the online Lester B. Pearson Scholarship application.

Notes:

  • Please note that applicants can apply for multiple study programs; however, the university only considers the Pearson Scholarship for their first choice of program at the University of Toronto.
  • If your school has not been verified, you can submit an application form to participate in the University of Toronto program. We will provide the nomination form and outline the next steps once your school has been verified.
