Opportunity Description
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) offers scholarships to international students at bachelor and master levels for Spring 2025. The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) is the managing body of the scholarships to which applicants can refer their applications. Therefore, qualifying students interested in studying in Taiwan can apply.
If you are a foreign national who has never held Republic of China (R.O.C.) citizenship and does not have Overseas Chinese student status at the time of application, you are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

- Master: 1~4 years

Benefits of the National Tsing Hua University Scholarships
The scholarship offers the following grants:
Bachelor’s/Master Scholarships:
Type (A) Full Scholarship
- Doctoral students: NTD 20,000~40,000 per month
- Doctoral students: NTD 10,000 per month (Applicable for students pursuing a PhD degree in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences OR International
- Intercollegiate PhD Program whose supervisors are from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.)
- Master students: NTD 5,000 per month
- Bachelor students: NTD 5,000 per month
- Tuition and Credit fee waived
Type (B) Tuition Waiver
- Tuition and Credit Fee Waiver
Notes:
- Students cover other fees (insurance, housing, etc.).
- Annual reapplication is required.
- Government scholarship recipients are not eligible.
- Students with work visas or ARC are not eligible.
- The first month’s stipend is prorated from the registration date; subsequent stipends are paid monthly.

Eligibility Criteria
Please review these criteria before applying for the National Tsing Hua University Scholarships for Spring 2025
- An individual of foreign nationality who has never held Republic of China (R.O.C.) citizenship and does not have Overseas Chinese student status is eligible to apply.
- An individual of foreign nationality who has resided overseas continuously for at least six years (with no more than 120 days in Taiwan per year), excluding Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau are eligible:
- An individual who is also a citizen of the R.O.C. but has never had a household registration in Taiwan.
- An individual who had R.O.C. citizenship annulled at least eight years ago.
- An individual who has never studied in Taiwan as an Overseas Chinese student or received placement permission from the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students.
- An applicant with foreign nationality, permanent residence in Hong Kong or Macao, no household registration in Taiwan, and continuous overseas residence for at least six years (with no more than 120 days in Taiwan per year).
- An applicant who was a former citizen of Mainland China, now holding a foreign nationality, with no household registration in Taiwan, and continuous overseas residence for at least six years (with no more than 120 days in Taiwan per year) is eligible.
- Applicants with a high school diploma are eligible for undergraduate programs. Those with a bachelor’s degree are eligible for master’s programs, and those with a master’s degree are eligible for doctoral programs.

Application Fee Payment Receipt

- Upload the payment receipt (transaction or payment record screenshot) to the online application system.
- Specify your application number on the receipt.
- If applying for multiple programs, include all application numbers on the receipt.

- Download, paste a photo, and sign the form in handwriting.
One Copy of Your Diploma

- Acceptable languages: English or Chinese.
- If in another language, provide an official English or Chinese translation.
- Applicants completing studies must submit a certificate of expected graduation.
- Submit a photocopy of the first degree/diploma for a second degree.
- Degrees from Mainland China require a certificate of degree conferral.
- Bachelor programs: High school diploma
- Master programs: Bachelor degree’s diploma
- Ph.D. programs: Master degree’s diploma
Note: Notarized English or Chinese diplomas are required after acceptance.
One Copy of Your Official Transcript(s)

- Include grades for every semester.
- If not in Chinese or English, provide an official English or Chinese translation and grading system.

- Master programs: Bachelor degree transcripts
- Ph.D. programs: Master’s degree transcripts
- Note: Notarized English or Chinese transcripts are required after acceptance.
One Copy of Statement of Purpose

- Bachelor Applicants: Write according to “statement of purpose instructions for international applicants” in Chinese or English.
- Master/Ph.D. Applicants: Provide a brief statement (1-3 pages) including motivation for choosing NTHU and the specific department/program.
Two Recommendation Letters

- Complete recommender information on the online application system.
- Recommenders should evaluate academic qualifications and research potential.
- Click “Send Notice” to notify recommenders and ensure they submit their recommendations by the deadline.
Financial Statement

- Provide an official bank balance statement (NTD 120,000 or USD 4,000) or proof of granted scholarship.
- Documents must be in English or Chinese and dated within the last three months.
- Sponsors must sign the Certification of Financial Responsibility Form and declare their relationship to the applicant.
- Only personal accounts are accepted.

- State the source of funds.
- If from a sponsor, provide relationship information and intent to support.
- Select “personal funds” if the statement is in the applicant’s name or “sponsor” if not.
- Provide the sponsor’s information and signature.
Declaration Form

- Print, review, and sign the form from the online application system.
- You may need to submit additional documents such as a “Forfeited Nationality Permit Certificate,” “Certificate of Entry and Exit Dates,” and a signed “Non-Household Registration Declaration.”
Verification of Nationality

- Verify your nationality or provide a copy of your passport.
- Include a residence permit if applicable.
Proof of Language Proficiency

- Certificate of CEFR B2 level or above (TOEFL iBT 71, TOEIC 750, IELTS 5.5)
