Opportunity Description
Applications are open for the Humboldt Research Fellowship, which supports postdoctoral and experienced researchers from developing and transition countries to undertake long-term research in Germany, offered by the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Through the Humboldt Research Fellowship, highly qualified postdoctoral and experienced researchers across all academic disciplines are invited to engage in research projects that contribute to sustainable development and align with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Eligible applicants include researchers from designated countries (excluding India and China) who possess a strong academic record and a clearly defined, development-focused research agenda.
Selected fellows will receive a fully-funded fellowship of up to two years, which includes a monthly stipend, research allowance, travel expenses, and additional support. This fellowship presents a valuable opportunity to conduct impactful research in collaboration with leading German institutions, contribute to addressing critical global challenges, broaden your academic and professional network, and enhance your international research profile with robust institutional backing.

All selected fellows will benefit from the program as follows:
- The monthly fellowship amount is €2,700 for postdoctoral researchers and €3,200 for experienced researchers.

- Further financial support includes family benefits, subsidies for private health insurance, and travel allowances.

Eligibility Criteria
All candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Postdoctoral researchers must have completed a doctorate within the last four years, been published in academic journals, and fulfilled the required criteria.
- Experienced researchers must have completed a doctorate within the last 12 years, have an extensive publication record, and fulfill the required criteria.
- Alternatively, applicants must have up to 16 years after the master’s degree with a suitable publication record if a doctorate is not feasible.
- Applicants should be non-German; exceptions apply based on residency and connections.
- Applicants must not have lived in Germany for more than six months within 18 months.
- You must confirm the availability of research facilities from a researcher from the academic institution of your choice in Germany.
- Two expert reviews are required as follows:
- For Postdocs: Doctoral supervisor and one other researcher, preferably from outside your institute.
- For Experienced Researchers: Collaborative partners or researchers from your institute.
- Language skills: German or English proficiency is necessary, depending on the field.
- Adherence to scientific ethics and principles
- Previous Humboldt Foundation sponsorship disqualifies.
- Explore alternative fellowships if the Humboldt Research Fellowship is not suitable.
