Opportunity Description

The application and nomination for the global teacher prize 2023 are now open to international teachers worldwide. If you are a teacher making a positive impact with great effort for teaching the students, hurry up and submit an application for the Global Teachers Prize. Alternatively, nominate someone who is one of the best teachers to win this precious Prize of 2023.

The Varkey Foundation (VF) awards a USD1,000,000 Prize to identify the importance of the teaching profession and endorse excellence in teaching. The winner will receive the amount of a prize ceremony at the final stage of the competition.

VF also offers USD1,00,000 cash Global Student Prize to outstanding international students to honor their contributions worldwide.

Who Can Apply for The Global Teacher Prize?

Applicants or nominees should meet the following requirements to be eligible for the 2023 Global Teacher Prize:

  • Applicant or nominee must be at least eighteen years old at the time of entry.
  • Currently, teaching teaches children between the ages of 5 and 18 or in compulsory schooling. Teachers who teach part-time, online courses, or children age 4+ in an Early Years government-recognized curriculum are also eligible to apply.
  • Should have at least 10 hours per week of face-to-face involvement with children and plan to continue teaching profession for the next five years.
  • Not restricted by any law in their country to participating in the Contest or receiving the Prize.
  • The applicant or any connected person of an Applicant must not have a criminal record.
  • The applicant or any connected person of an Applicant must not have conducted in such a way as to disrepute or to have been adversely prejudicial to the interests of VF, the teaching profession, VF affiliates, any GEMS Education group company, or their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, and subsidiaries VF Parties.
  • Should not be a previous Prize winner.
  • Must not be a previous Top 10 candidate.

The judges will evaluate the applications based on the following criteria:

  • Employing effective, replicable, and scalable instructional practices to influence the quality of education worldwide.
  • Applicants should address the particular challenges of the school, community, or country through innovative instructional practice.
  • Demonstrated student learning outcome.
  • Impact on the community beyond the classroom as a teaching model.
  • Contribute to helping children become global citizens by providing value-based education.
  • Have gained recognition from the government, national teaching organizations, head teachers, colleagues, or

Selection Process

The selection process for the Global Teacher Prize details is as follows:

  • After the application deadline, a panel of online judges will review and score all applications and select the Top 50 finalists.
  • The first Prize Committee of judges will then select ten finalists.
  • In the final step, the Global Teacher Prize Academy will select the winner via a secure online voting system. The selection will be subject to additional screening, background, and reference checks.
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers will monitor the whole process to ensure transparency.
  • VF will pay the Prize to the winner, or in case of the applicant’s death, to representatives or beneficiaries, as applicable.
  • The total amount will be payable in an equal annual installment of USD 100,000 over ten (10) years. Please note that the Prize is subject to any tax or other withholding required under applicable law, with the Terms and Conditions of the Prize.
  • During the ten years, the winner or any connected person of an Applicant must not have conducted in such a way as to disrepute or to have been adversely prejudicial to the interests of VF, the teaching profession, VF affiliates, any GEMS Education group company, or their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, and subsidiaries VF Parties.
  • The winner should attend financial counseling sessions provided free of charge by VF.
