About the prize

Nominations for the 2021 TÜBA Academy Prizes are now open with an exclusively sharp deadline. The prizes are awarded in honor of the prominent scientists’ efforts and breakthrough achievements in certain areas of science. Those academics or scientists who have achieved original and transformative results in their field are eligible.

Nomination deadline: 21 May 2021

Awarding institution: Turkish Academy of Sciences 

Number of winners: three (one in each category)

Presentation of the prize: in an awarding ceremony in turkey under the patronage of the Turkish president

Prize value: each winner will receive a 30,000 US$ cash prize and a medal.

Prize categories

The Academy awards extraordinary scientists in one of the three following categories:

1) Basic and Engineering Sciences,
2) Health and Life Sciences and
3) Social Sciences and Humanities.

Prize distribution mechanism

Each category carries one prize and each year one of the prizes is presented to a scientist who relates to turkey or a Turkish issue, meaning that the candidate should work or study turkey.

Eligibilities

• The prize is open to all scientists worldwide.
• TÜBA members, academies and inter-academy organizations with which TÜBA has collaboration can nominate nominees for the prize.
• Also, other scientific institutions and scientists invited as nominators can make nominations.
• Nominees should not have won any science award from public institutions or organizations in turkey in the last three years.

1. 2021 John Maddox Prize for the Promotion of Sound Science and Research in Public Sphere (£3000 prize)
2. XPrize for Carbon Removal ($100 Million prizes) _ A Global Prize for Innovators and Teams Worldwide

Evaluation

A Prize Committee in each category evaluates the nominees. The Committees, consisting of TÜBA members and prominent scientists, examine the works of the candidates via a robust process involving peer-review and determine the likely prize winners. The laureates are announced by the Academy Council of TÜBA.
