About Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University:

The Harvard University Arnold Arboretum is a botanical research institution and free public park located in the Boston neighborhoods of Jamaica Plain and Roslindale. It is North America’s oldest public arboretum, having opened in 1872. The Emerald Necklace’s second largest “link” was planned by Charles Sprague Sargent and Frederick Law Olmsted. The Arnold Arboretum’s temperate tree, shrub, and vine collection focuses on plants from the eastern United States and eastern Asia, where arboretum workers and associates are constantly obtaining new material on plant-collecting missions. The arboretum promotes study through its landscape and the Weld Hill Research Building.
