Job summary:

CARE Afghanistan is seeking applications from qualified male & female applicants for its Kabul, Mazar-e- Sharif, Herat and Kandahar Provinces-based positions of Community Health Worker Trainer for its PQ/UHI Project. Eligible applicants can apply after reading the announcement details below.

Summary of key duties:

The community health worker trainer plays an important role in designing training material and conducting training to Urban Community Health Workers (UCHWs) according to the MoPH/CHBC strategies and urban health initiative project requirement at the community level in the provinces.

Under the guidance of community engagement specialist UHI project, she is expected to identify vulnerable communities and UCHWs by coordinating with the venerable community, including teachers, Mula, religious leaders, health Shura and CDC, and enhancing awareness about Afghanistan health system and urban area.

Similarly, the trainer is expected to motivate and engage fellow community members to deliver the key messages of health to their families and community.

Reporting:

The trainer will report to the community engagement specialist in the respective provinces.

Key Relations

  • Reports to Community Engagement Specialist
  • Collaborates with UHI project.
  • Actively contributes to the urban health initiative (UHI) project to assure that the project interventions are implemented in an effective and efficient manner and the project goal and objectives are obtained.

 Job Description

The trainers’ main duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • The CHW trainer is tasked to provide training, workshops and awareness facility about reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health for Community health workers (CHWs).
  • The trainer shall contribute to the selection of community health workers in target areas.
  • Ensure the implementation of urban health CBHC strategies and adapt to the UHI work plan.
  • Supervise and follow-up the CHWs activities at the targeted communities including the delivery of health education and services during home visits as well as in the health posts.
  • Liaise with MCH and other programs and stakeholders in the area concerned in women and neonatal health.
  • Ensure establishment and capacity building of the Female Health Shuras, Family Health Action Groups (FHAGs) enabling these groups to work independently.
  • Interact with communities and community leaders to determine health problems and facilitate community mobilization for a better decision-making system.
  • Conduct supportive supervision and build the capacity of them according to the need.
  • Conduct training to CHWs about a semi-annual and regular survey of the target group (women and under five-year children).

Job requirements:

Education and Working Experience:

  • An MD Degree or Diploma from medical institutions (nursing and midwifery).
  •  At least 14th grade graduate with minimum 3-5 years’ experience of training preferably in the area of health/RMNCH.

  • Work enthusiastically and patiently.
  • Deep knowledge of the community health services provided by CHWs

Skills:

  • Outstanding training, facilitation, and community mobilization skills
  • Have a profound knowledge of Afghan traditions and cultural norms
  • Ability and willingness to work in the communities
  • Excellent spoken and written Dari and Pushto skills.
  • Ability to conduct mobilization sessions at the community levels.
  • Over three years’ relevant experience in the Afghanistan health system
    Ability to review and monitor activity and record outcomes and learning.
    English language and computer skills would be a benefit.
  • English language skills will be a plus point.
