Job summary:

CARE Afghanistan invites applications from Qualified Afghans both male & female for its Kabul, Mazar-e- Sharif, Herat, and Kandahar Provinces-based positions of Community Mobilizer for its HERP/UHI Project. Eligible applicants can apply after reading the announcement below.

Summary of the main functions:

The Community Mobilizer do a key part in designing and implementing the Urban Health Initiative project activities at the community level in the respective provinces.  Under the guidance of the community engagement specialist, s/he is expected to identify, connect and bring in the networked venerable community, including teacher, Mula, religious leaders, health Shura, and community health workers to the community while increasing awareness around health and health problem.

The incumbent is also expected to encourage and engage fellow community members to deliver the key messages of health awareness to their families and community.

The Community Mobilizer will report to the community engagement specialist at the provincial level:

Key Relations

  • Reports to Community Engagement Specialist
    Collaborates with UHI project
    actively contributes to urban health initiative (UHI) project to assure that the project interventions are implemented in an effective and efficient manner and the project goal and objectives are obtained.

 Job Description

The COs main duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Contribute to design and implementation of outreach activities to deliver inputs to outreach community mobilizers;
  • Keep the community updated on the Covid-19 outbreak in Afghanistan
  • Connect with and engage individuals and groups who approach societal problems in less conventional ways;
  • Connect the mapped initiatives and people with each other and coordinate for their mutual benefit e.g., when more than one group provide the same or complementary services;
  • Deliver appropriate training sessions with the use of acceptable teaching methods and materials to the target group’s community.
  • Organize and attend all project events (practical training on cooperation between the local government and communities, consultations with communities, mobilization of venerable individuals,
  • Hold at least one mobilization session at the community to increase community awareness on covid-19 prevention, communication, personal and environmental sanitation, etc.
  • Respond and conform to a flexible activity scheduling, logistical limitations related to public space management, or social dynamics involving the community and its expectations;
  • Distributions hygiene kits as per the selected criteria to the target group at the community level.

Job requirements:

1. Qualifications and skills:

Education and Working Experience:

  • Graduated university from Social sciences or Psychosocial field with a BA, and/or have a degree relevant to health (required),
  • At 3- 5 years’ experience of the health sector and community mobilization desirably who have an understanding of Afghanistan health system.

Core Competencies:

  • Demonstrate cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;
    Highest standards of integrity, discretion and loyalty
  • be detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with a range of individuals and groups

Functional Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and independently with minimal supervision and deliver quality results against sharp deadlines;
  • Have good communication skills to onboard community members and coordinate with the international Future Makers team;
  • Possess exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written) in Dari and Pashtu.
  • English Language skills is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of the community health services conducted by the health provider
  • Outstanding training and facilitation and community mobilization skills
  • Have a profound knowledge of Afghan traditions and cultural norms
  • Ability and willingness to work at the communities
  • Excellent spoken /written Dari and Pushto literacy.
  • Ability to conduct mobilization sessions at community levels.
