About the project

AHEAD is an education and USAID-funded project. USAID continues to support higher education in Afghanistan through the Advancing Higher Education for Afghanistan’s Development (AHEAD) program, an pioneering initiative that aimed at improving the quality and relevance of higher education by strengthening relations to public and private sector employability.  AHEAD achieves this through a network approach whereby Afghan Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are partnered with Coordinating Universities, in USA and Afghanistan, across core growth sectors including Agriculture, Business, Education and Health.

Therefore, AHEAD will work with chosen public and private HEIs in Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces

Job summary

This is a full-time Access Coordinator position reporting to the Sr. Manager for Access & e-Learning and working closely with Sr. Provincial Coordinator, Provincial Education Directorates (PEDs) and Schools. The Access Coordinator is managing and coordinating the Access activities with PEDs, Schools and the Steering Committee as well as monitoring and evaluating the Kankor preparation courses in the target provinces.

Job Description:

Key Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and managing the Access activities of AHEAD in target provinces.
  • Working with PED, Schools, communities and the steering committee in the related province to implement the Kankor preparation courses to the vulnerable students
  • Working with PEDs and schools to form the steering committee for Access
  • Workingwith steering committee to initiate criteria for recognizing champion teachers/vulnerable students as well as choosing them.
  • Assuring that procedures for vulnerable student selection comply with AHEAD’s policy, mainly ensuring equality and diversity.
  • Holding meetings with parents/community to improve awareness and promote support for Access activity.
  • Overseeing and evaluating the implementation of Kankor preparation courses in target schools
  • Gathering relevant reports, feedbacks and suggestions from students, teachers, steering committee members and sending them to AHEAD main office for notice.
  • Ensuring continuing monitoring, tracking and reporting of the Access activities
  • Updating the students’ database and making sure the necessary data is entered.
  • Supervising the daily activities of the champion teachers/external teachers
  • Overseeing the delivery of teaching and learning materials/supplies in the pertinent province.
  • Coordinating/arranging steering committee meetings, preparing agendas and creating/disseminating the meeting minutes.
  • Developing progress and situational reports
  • Performing other tasks as consigned by the Sr. Manager, Access and e-Learning and Sr. Provincial Coordinator.

Job requirements:

Qualifications and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (education, management, business administration, public administration) or any relevant field is mandatory.
  • Possess four years of experience.
  • Work experience with international development organizations or donor-financed development projects is favored.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills.
  • Practical working experience with educational projects is advantageous.
  • Must be a native Dari or Pashto speaker.
  • Fluency in English (in both oral and written) is necessary.
  • Knowledge of Afghan culture, international codes of conduct, and the current political situation in Afghanistan.
  • Literate in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is critical as is ability to undertake general analysis of data (e.g., student, faculty, and university statistics.
